its actually not funny nor is it cute that white gays are flooding the proud boys hashtag on tw w gay pride like im sorry but there are some things that dont need to be reclaimed. i dont want to deal with anyone that fucking calls themselves a proud boy? do yall have working brains? what are u gonna do next? coopt the kkk?

nd its interesting to note that only white supremacist groups get treated as jokes. the president basically endorses a racist hate group nd white ppl think the solution is flooding a hashtag full of……. white ppl that happen to be gay? like y'all really treat the danger ppl of color nd jewish ppl are in like a fuck stan tw joke nd make memes abt it nd that’s not cute nd it’s definitely not fucking helping

the point isn’t to reclaim it, it’s to make the hashtag unusable for them

Don’t y'all remember Kpop fans flooding the white supremacists tags a while back? It wasn’t to be cute and trendy, it’s to interfere with their discussions

that didn’t work either. why are y'all so stupid? white supremacists don’t use twitter as their main recruiting or discussion place so all y'all have done is put your white faces in a tag abt white supremacy nd those images will circulate nd everyone who doesn’t know abt the specific ‘takeover’ (which is a lot of ppl) will just think that there are a bunch of white supremacist gays. nd the actual white supremacists will continue to be white supremacists nd when they harm poc nd jewish ppl all of you will turn your heads bc none of y'all care abt allyship unless there’s a way to get followers and retweets bc if you did you callous motherfuckers would actually read all these posts circulating typed out by minorites nd understand that we do not think this was good allyship but yeah you can keep talking over us like y'all always do

I’m a full believer in doing small things for yourself to cultivate your soul without having to tell anybody especially in a day and age where people feel the need to capitalize on every aspect of themselves to create an aestheticized identity… like learning a language going on a run writing a poem practicing your craft going to a museum dancing for fun can and should give you personal fulfillment that doesn’t have to be presented through a lens or validated by an audience

This is monstrous. What she is proposing is a literal crime against humanity.

No exaggeration. No hyperbole. One of the justices of the Supreme Court is proposing that the country should violate human rights en masse.

Literally what I just posted about the other day. The adoption industry is in what they call a “baby bust”, meaning less people are relinquishing their children. This is a GOOD THING, because relinquishment is a trauma for both the parents and person being relinquished. This is a sign that mutual aid resources and organizations such as Saving Our Sisters are allowing more families to be able to stay together. Because most birth/first mothers say they relinquished because they are very young or cannot afford to raise a child, not because they want to relinquish their baby… and that overlaps pretty perfectly with the demographics of who are the most harmed by abortion restrictions. This is not a coincidence.

It is also because other countries such as Russia and Ethiopia have outlawed US adoptions in response to the traumas associated with and human trafficking that occurs in international adoption. That is why they specify a need to increase “domestic suppy”… because not as many imports are coming in.

The adoption industry wants baby mills made up of people at their most vulnerable, so that wealthy Americans can buy babies on-demand. (The several year long wait to adopt an infant while there are children and teens in foster care has always boggled my mind.) Pro tip: relinquishment at birth is a type of preverbal trauma that has lifelong effects, so no, you are not getting your “clean slate” baby!

(If anyone wants sources or links to anything, or just wanna talk, I’m happy to share, I just know adding links gets my reblog shadowbanned)

This is also exactly why I get so pissed off when people shrug off the fact that I’m subfertile with “Well, just adopt. You live in Korea, right? Adopt a Korean baby!”

Listen, fuckers.

Foreign adoption of Korean babies is straight-up human trafficking. Like, Korean women’s rights groups here have been lobbying the government for years to stop adopting babies out. Any mother who’s in a crisis center, leaving an abusive husband, or just generally unwed in the last few decades has been forced to give her baby up for foreign adoption. There have been reports of women tricked into signing the papers, being told (untruthfully) that it’s only temporary while she gets her life together, or that the government has deemed her unfit and is just straight-up TAKING her baby.

I’ve spoken with Korean children who were adopted into American families, and the families are told that the children were being neglected in orphanages where they were starved, and that their mothers abandoned them for being the wrong sex (because for some reason American adopters overwhelmingly want FEMALE Korean babies), and such stories that are very tailored to make them hate their original culture and mothers. They’re told that they were rescued from poverty and squalor and sexist violence.

Dudes. Korea’s economy is better than America’s. And it has been for several decades now.

And the government in Korea gets a large part of their national income from the fees that foreign parents pay to “rescue” Korean babies.

Don’t do this shit to a child. Adoption shouldn’t be an industry. It should be a backup plan for kids who are for some reason without parents. Anything less than that is human trafficking.

I think the most harmful thing to come out of consumerism in witchcraft communities is that people have thrown philosophy, theory, self discipline, history, and introspection to the wayside as skills to develop later. While putting the “need” to aquire objects and tools as the most important first step.

What’s the point of all the crystals and herbs in the world if you don’t know and understand WHY you’re using them.

Oh and uh it blocks out poor and stigmatized communities from participating and makes it a luxury hobby. Which defeats the whole point of it historically being a resource for the oppressed and disadvantaged.

lyndsaybones:

Part 1

The trip home from the manicured neighborhoods of Arcadia will be a long one, for many reasons. Coast to coast flights on the Bureau’s tab are measured in economy of the dime, not time. It’ll be well past midnight by the time they reach their own beds.

They’re Mulder and Scully again, although they still look like Rob and Laura. She admitted that the sweater sets came from her own mother’s closet. He’d simply walked into a department store and bought what was on the mannequins.

The jokes about being married were like grenades. He couldn’t stop. He just kept pulling the pins and lobbing them one after another. And she took the hits, over and over and over. She’d be safer if she just left him.

He chances a fleeting look her way, expecting to find her sleeping. But she is awake, that telltale eyebrow lifted as she works through some impregnable knot in her mind.

There is something broken between them, he knows this. A cord was severed and now the ends are too short to meet again. He misses her. She’s right in front of him, but he misses her desperately.

Kissing her that night, her lips tasting like vodka and stale cigarettes, was a mistake. He knew it the moment he did it. She looked up at him and with just a few words, completely separated his soul from his body and left him standing in his doorway like a gutted carcas on a hook.

There is a lot they don’t discuss. A lot that they should.

“It’s real, you know,” she says, out of nowhere.

He’s almost startled to have her start a conversation.

“What is?”

She holds up her hand, flashing the wedding ring at him. Platinum, a marquis cut stone, one carat at least. Several, smaller stones around it. It’s probably worth five grand. He fancied himself an ametuer gemologist for a brief moment a lifetime ago with Diana. He bought her a half carat princess cut on on a white gold band. She hardly ever wore it, even after the wedding. She took it with her when she left.

Scully drops her hand and looks down at the ring for a moment, her brows knit in contemplation.

“Strange,” she says softly. “A ring without a wedding and a marriage with no vows. Who’d’ve thought Walter Skinner would be the one to hand me a wedding ring.”

It makes him squirm, to hear her talk like this. He grinds his molars and swallows back the acid rising in his throat. She slides the ring off of her finger and deposits it in her pocket.

Those weren’t vows he made that day in his fateful hallway? Didn’t he carry her like a bride through the bowels of a spaceship? Didn’t he kiss her back to life?

“Is this the part where we hire lawyers and fight over who gets the Le Creuset cookware?” he deflects.

She looks up with an unreadable expression, those wide eyes searching his face like a map.

“That’s more your area of expertise.”

It happens so fast he almost doesn’t feel it. Until he does, of course. By then she’s already turned away and left him to figuratively bleed out.

Another 10 hours together including the layover in Denver and she doesn’t say another word.

The weekend slips by and he does not call her. Doesn’t show up at her door. Monday comes and they deal with it the way they deal with everything. They pretend it didn’t happen.

it’s a universal truth: fic writers will go apeshit for fanart based on their fics. they just do. i could be on my deathbed and if someone showed me art from a scene in my fic i’d backflip into the wall and knock my ass out

Y'all it got me a girlfriend. During quarantine. Reblog to save a life.

Draw parts from your favorite fanfic. Leave a link on the fanfic. Watch the author absolutely lose their shit in the best possible way.

When Jews talk about culturally Xian atheists not recognizing how very much their cultural ties to Xianity define their worldview and how they treat them as default and secular even though they aren’t, we mean like this:

“[My wife] and I are part of America’s ever-growing “nones” with no religious affiliation at all. Before we had kids, we imagined we’d choose a religion to raise them in […] But when our first child was born four years ago, we realized that going to any house of worship and following a religion just for our children to feel a connection to something wouldn’t be authentic. We couldn’t teach them to believe in anything we didn’t believe in ourselves. So our two daughters will celebrate Christmas and Easter because that’s what my extended family still celebrates. We’ll do so simply to see our families at the time they want to gather and because we both feel at home in those traditions. Just like I did, my kids will celebrate Santa and the Easter Bunny, not a religion.”

This author’s father is Jewish and she grew up with Chanukah, but she doesn’t identify as Jewish and was clearly far more influenced by her mother’s Catholicism. She goes on to explain how she kind of almost wishes she could celebrate Chanukah again, but she just can’t, darnit, because she doesn’t believe in Judaism as a religion, so what can you do, eh? And yet celebrating Xian holidays because she “feels at home” with them is something compatible with being a “none,” totally neutral and secular.

I have seen Anakin Skywalker murder a group of younglings twice on-screen already.  I have seen the Rogue One hallway scene.  I have read the comics where Vader snaps a Stormtrooper’s neck by twisting it literally 180 degrees around, just because the guy saw Vader without his mask, I have run from Darth Vader in Jedi: Fallen Order where he is shit your pants terrifying as he literally rips the room apart around you to throw the walls at you.

And this show still manages to make me FULLY BODY RECOIL FROM THE SCREEN because jesus FUCK Anakin, dragging Obi-Wan through the fire like that that’s fucking TERRIFYING, the sheer amount of selfishness of how much he wants Obi-Wan to hurt because he hurts, what he’s willing to do, the levels he’s willing to sink to, the horrors he’s willing to do, just to lash out at the galaxy, the sheer violence of that scene, made me physically hurt, because you think you’re ready for whatever Darth Vader will do next, you’ve seen the lowest of him, and yet there’s always something worse of him.

Listen, this is a very specific topic to be iffy about, but for your knowledge, the Roman gods are notthe Greek gods.

The Romans were big on syncretism (the combination of different forms of belief or intellectual thought) and the adoption of foreign gods. The Greek deities were known since very early periods via the Etruscan culture, which was heavily influenced by Greece since the middle of the 8th century BC because of trade routes as well as the Greek cultural potential and would come to be completely engulfed around the third century BC with the Roman-Etruscan wars, but just like you’d see the Romans claiming the Germanic tribes worshipped their own gods under different names (the Germania by Roman historian Tacitus, written around 98 AD), the same happened here, and the fusion wasn’t 100% accurate.

While in the case of Zeus and Jupiter, for example, it worked well, Venus is far more motherly and political than Aphrodite (as Mars is the Father of Rome via the myth of Romulus and Remus, Venus is Venus Genetrix, Venus the Mother, and the only time you’ll see Aphrodite being motherly is in… the Aeneid, a distinctively Roman piece), Mars is an agricultural god as well as the god of war and has way more political connotations than Ares (he was a member of the archaic Capitoline Triad), Mercury is far more linked with commerce than the more pastoral Hermes, and the list goes on. Apollo was imported directly and very early (a temple for him, the Temple of Apollo Sosianus, was erected in the city of Rome as early as 431 BC), thus keeping the name but undergoing a very distinct Romanization of his attributes and worship. Janus, Quirinus and Terminus were very important Roman gods which had no Greek equivalent.

Isis, for example, was worshipped as herself, equated with a number of deities in both the Greek and the Roman worlds and some of her methods of worship and symbolism were associated with the Virgin Mary. It’s a far more complicated scenario, babes, especially when you consider Alexander’s conquests and the expansion of Hellenistic culture as well as its contact with many other cultures.

Syncretism is way more complicated than “the Romans just stole the Greek gods and gave them different names, the uncreative fucks”. The traditional date for Rome’s foundation is 753 BC and the WesternRoman Empire would last until 436 AD. That’s over a thousand years of conquest, trade and growing and shrinking territories, and none of these factors are likely to leave a religion unaltered.

Besides, the practice of religious syncretism is way older and more common than you’d expect. The Akkadians did it to Summerian deities a few thousand years before this especially after the conquest of Sargon of Akkad in 2340 BC (“Mesopotamia: the Sumerians”. Washington State University). The Greeks were doing much the same with the Roman pantheon itself (Dionysus of Halicarnassus and Plutarch use Greek names for Roman cult), with the Egyptian pantheon and with the Scythian pantheon (Herodotus in both cases, though the associations would outlive him, such as the case of Zeus/Amon).

So,nothe Roman gods aren’t the plagiarized versions of the Greek gods, and I could defend this in front of a jury.
