Every backbend has the potential to open our hearts, if we’re strong enough to let all the love and all the discomfort in. But if we’re only willing to look at what feels good and comfortable, then we close our best off to one of its most meaningful condition which is empathy. In order to open our hearts, we have to be okay with really feeling someone else’s discomfort, even if it means coming down from our own comfort zones.

We cannot change our emotions, our thoughts or ylour physicality like a light switch. We cannot go from a stiff spine to a flexible one overnight. Yoga teaches us to accept reality as it is first and then in that state of acceptance see what change is possible. Working with healthy alignment, qualified teachers and time-honored methods, we have the power to change our reality breath by breath, day by day and year by year with our slow, steady perseverance over a lifetime. Perhaps the greatest gift of this practice is the chance every day to know just a little more peace.
