A Christmas Carol II: The Rise of the Juggernauts

by Nicholas Kaminsky

Ebenezer Scrooge was dead to begin with. He did not go quietly. So said the workers at the London Institute for the Insane.

Twenty-five years have passed since the events of Charles Dickens’ beloved classic, A Christmas Carol. Mr. Scrooge—as good a friend, as good a man, as the good old city knew—has passed away. It is common knowledge that he lost his mind and spent his final days in an asylum, rambling on about ghostly visitors, but recently there have been whispers in dangerous circles that perhaps old Scrooge was not as far gone as had seemed the case. Ever-more intriguing tales have emerged which suggest the existence of a powerful Relic capable, it is said, of placing the terrifying energies of the spirit realm under the command of whoever manages to wield it.

Meanwhile, “Tiny” Tim Cratchit has returned from an extended trip to the Far East where, unbeknownst to most, he has spent the last several years learning the martial arts in order to strengthen his crippled body and has emerged from his rigorous training a fearsome shinobi ninja warrior. Now, concealing his lethal abilities beneath the persona of the wealthy and affable Mr. Timothy Cratchit, he will need all of his skill—and perhaps more—in order to defeat the looming threat posed by a treacherous secret society and its invincible mechanical army, the Juggernauts.

As these forces of good and evil array themselves for the final, decisive battle for the city, a still greater danger looms unseen and menacing on the horizon. Even with his considerable abilities, Tim will have all he can do to survive, much less prevail, in the dark times ahead.

All I want for Christmas is for the crew of the enterprise to see Picard as the leading man in the TNT 1999 version of A Christmas Carol.

I mean the production values are amazing and everyone is acting their face off and it’s the gloomiest most Victorian version since that 1953 one that gave me nightmares.

1701/10 do recommend!

I will live in the past, the present, and the future. The spirit of all three shall be in my heart. I shall never forget the lessons that they teach. Tell me that this will change my future. Tell me that this is not my end.

Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” was first published on this day, 19 December, in 1843.
Here we have the first American edition, published in Philadelphia by Carey & Hart in 1844. Illustrated with four hand-coloured, lithographed plates by P. S. Duval after John Leech. Original gilt-stamped cream cloth, title page in red and blue, and with yellow endpapers. Gilt-stamped pattern repeated in blind on back. Slight soiling to covers, original pale endpapers spectacularly oxidised, extremities skilfully restored, still a near-fine copy of one of the rarest issues of this famous Christmas story. Currently in our shop at 46 Curzon Street.

Do ppl realize that Ebinizer Scrooge isn’t bad because he dislikes Christmas, he’s bad because he’s greedy and selfish and pays his employees poverty wages and has no concern whether other people live or die

OP your tags … warming myself with your delicious tea it’s too good not to share

dickens: scrooge hates christmas because it’s about being generous and spending time with others with no profit motive, and all he cares about is profit.

audience: wow, can’t believe that scrooge hates having fun.

dickens: literally every relationship he’s ever had has been ruined because he cared more about making money than about other people.

audience: can’t believe a guy cut off his whole family because he doesn’t like tinsel.

dickens, growing more frustrated: he’s so obsessed with profit that he won’t even heat his own house if it costs him money! he complains about losing a single day of income from businesses being closed on christmas! CHRISTMAS IS A METAPHOR FOR BEING A DECENT PERSON!

audience: how can you hate cookies and presents, you scrooge?
