#auditions
One of my dearest held principles that I share with as many actors as possible is actually quite simple: read poetry. This is even more applicable if you’re also a playwright, writer, director, or composer. The overlap between theatre and poetry is huge, and not just with the classics. Music and poetry are inextricably linked. Reading poetry, both casually and out loud, can really help you grow as an actor and give you the skills to better understand text and subtext when it’s presented to you. Below are some of my very favorite poems for actors. Enjoy.
Megan Married Herself– Caroline Bird
Snow and Dirty Rain– Richard Siken
Ode to the Women on Long Island– Olivia Gatwood
The Kindest Thing She Almost Did – Blythe Baird
May We Raise Children Who Love the Unloved Things– Nicolette Sowder
Preface to a Twenty Volume Suicide Note–Amiri Baraka
Good Bones – Maggie Smith
14 Lines From Love Letters or Suicide Notes– Doc Luben
I have more, but these are some favorites.

Video auditions as a female brass player blow cause no matter how well you play, you think to yourself, “damn, really hope the person watching this isn’t a sexist pig!”
Hey guys, This is James from the 104th Voice Squad! While the group that created the audioplay “Attack on Space”, is currently hard at work on “Airheart” I am also in charge of a brand new original project! Allow me to introduce you to “Mimiru,” a short and sweet miniseries that is sure to have you rolling on the floor laughing! It is a project that is close to my heart, as it is something I conceptualized years ago. But now in 2015, it is finally time to bring this world to life and share it with everyone!
Hello guys, dolls, and everyone in-between! Our auditions are starting back up again and this time, the auditions aren’t limited to just Facebook! We are posting here on Tumblr as well as Instagram! Please read through all the information VERY carefully, as, if you do not follow all the directions, you WILL NOT be considered! If you have any questions about the auditions, please email [email protected]!
Please note that this is specifically for those in the Louisiana, Oklahoma, and, of course, Texas area.
Auditions will be running from December 1st until January 14th at 11:59pm! All submissions must be sent to [email protected]
Your audition is a video of you doing a two minute or under choreographed dance routine WITHOUT the removal of clothes. This time, instead of a theme, we want to see how in-character you can get! Pick a cosplay of yours, or, if you don’t have a cosplay yet, pick a character and design the routine around that character. Make sure to tell us who the character is! Music, any props, and the routine itself must reflect upon the character.
You may record yourself performing this and either send it directly to our email address, or upload it to YouTube as “Unlisted” and then send us the link to your YouTube video.
Audition videos must be sent to the Texan Heat Nerdlesque email: [email protected]
When you send your audition, make sure to include a little about yourself. We want to get to know you, your interests, why you want to join our troupe, and so forth. Again, remember to include who your character is and from what series! We will research the character to make sure that you are in-character!
These are some questions that we will be keeping in mind during your routine, you may use these as guidelines for your audition:
- Were you in-character and is the routine two minutes or under?
- Did you have expressions, or did you have only one face throughout your routine?
- Were any props used, if so, how well did they fit?
- How well do you move with the music and routine that you’ve choreographed? Were there any outstanding moves?
- Finally, DID YOU FOLLOW ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS?
The final date for submission is January 14th BEFORE 11:59pm!
Finally, have fun with your audition. THN is not just about enjoyment for the audience, we want our shows to be fun for the performers as well. If you need any other information, please email [email protected] and we will get to it shortly. Best of luck everyone!
Auditions for spring semester are tomorrow and my professor added some weird excerpts this time I’d never heard Le Rossignol by Stravinsky before, but it’s growing on me now! Hopefully I can clean it up a bit more before tomorrow
First grad school interview done and I think it helped get me out of the depressive episode I’ve been dealing with a little. I think finally getting feedback on my audition videos just made me feel better about where I’m at. Also hearing positive feedback from someone who’s never heard me before made me optimistic about being accepted to at least one school
Ahaha
So does anyone have any last minute audition tips ..
No I Don’t Think You Understand
I have an audition in a month. Last one ever for my Youth Orchestra. There are like three of us violists who are very equal in skill. This is a battle for that front stand guys. I am going to nap my fears away.
