The Houses October Built(2014)

“The film’s plot follows five friends who set out on a road trip in search of haunted house attractions, and find themselves targeted by a mysterious and disturbed group.”

It’s a found footage horror movie and it falls flat. It takes over half way through for it to get even semi-interesting. The acting is poor and the “casual” conversation among friends seems soooo forced and unnatural. The best acting came from a female cop that had about 2 lines in the beginning. There was no thrill here and thrill seeking is what the movie was all about. Yikes. I could never recommend this to anyone. It was just so bad. It could have been saved so many ways but, they wrote half a story and went with it. The ONLY woman in the group existed just to be a submissive tag a long character too and that was gross.

I’ll give them two things though. It was smart when they planned to film(during peek hours of some haunted houses and bourbon street nola) and some of the actual news footage they used in the beginning was smart as well.

This exploitation film is about a bunch of deviants. Students. Teachers. Everyone. The story is all over and it was all poorly excecuted. I wish I could get those 95 minutes back.

This film seems like it was just a private project for the writer/director to add to his collection of lame S&M fetish videos tbh. Yuck.

Alleluia! The Devil’s Carnival(2015)

What can I say about this?

It’s a sequel to the short film “The Devil’s Carnival”. A musical with a 500,000usd budget.

I’m torn with this because, the IDEA is so good. It could have been executed so much better and far more well written and it would have been excellent. However, it’s lacking and I don’t think it’s as good as it’s budget could have allowed it to be at all.

This is a movie that I would love to see remade with a bigger budget and better writers and then I’d watch it again but, as is? I wouldn’t really recommend it unless you want to watch something just to pick at its flaws.

I love camp, bad acting and low budgets just as much as the next b movie lover but, this is just …a no.

Blood Tea and Red String(2006)

“In a forest, a group of white mice commission a doll from the Creatures Who Dwell Under The Oak. But the Creatures grow attached to the completed product and refuse to sell it to the mice. Finding an egg nearby, the Creatures sew it into the doll’s belly. After the angry mice return and steal her back, the Creatures set out to rescue their beloved object, encountering a number of obstacles on their way – from labyrinths to poisonous fruit and a sinister spider-woman.”

It’sok. It’s rated decently but, I cannot see myself watching it again unless it’s just to expose someone else to it. And that someone else is high as FUCK.

(2014)This is one I enjoyed a bit. While it was nominated for quite a few awards and even won some, I find a lot of people have still never heard of this film at all.

The troubled main character is legally put into the custody of her mother in a very dark and possibly haunted house. I have watched this a few times and it’s pretty well done. I can’t really say much without giving things away though.

I’d recommend it.

(2015)Another film about older men and younger women. I originally watched this because I wanted to watch more of Kip Pardue’s work. This is off the mark. The manic energy of this film is so cringe and tense. Not long after the story begins, you wonder what will be the peak of this mess. It’s spirals and spirals and spirals the whole fucking time. It’s just uncomfortable.

Btw RIP to Kip’s career.

This John Waters film is probably my least favorite. And it has nothing to do with the wacko dog death or the meat penis.

While I’m well aware that John Waters films are weird and contain a fair bit of shock, this was still just a miss for me. It seems sloppier than normal. I’d watch it again though haha.

I just love John Waters.

(2015)This dances in the sharknado realm of things but, worse. I would watch it again with someone who hadn’t seen it though. There is a weird abuse storyline within it as well that rubbed me the wrong way when I watched it. I don’t really have much else to say about it.
