Bucky wasn’t ignoring you, he just needed some time to think. He replayed what you said over and over. As soon as you slammed the door in his face, he drove back to his house, and laid on the couch, he stared at the ceiling…and replayed your words. Again and again.
Summary: The day you get the biggest news of your life, Steve returns.

You can’t muster one ounce of surprise. In your heart of hearts, you always suspected his business with you wasn’t finished–you feared it. That he’d make his way to the woman of his dreams and… find her wanting, only to come back and yank the rug out from under your life.
It’s numbness which floods your muscles when you swing open the door to the bright eyes and sober face of Steven Rogers, several minutes shy of eight pm, but not surprise. No, in order for you to be taken aback by his presence, you’d have to know him less. Staring into the eyes of the man you used to place all your dreams on, eyes as blue as the ones of the man you love, now–and yet less lively, less… well, no spark like a flame burns behind his irises, no blue like heatandpassion. Steve’s are blue like leaving, and broken promises. And they betray an understanding of what he’s done, so crystal-clear that it stabs through the numbness in your chest.
summary: steve leaves you to pursue a life with peggy. bucky is there to pick up the pieces, and build a life you never could’ve imagined in order to dream of it.
