Since the discs finally seem to be getting distribution, it seemed a good time to show you all the artwork I did for the new POPEYE: the 1940s release coming out from your good friends at WB ARCHIVE. Note that I tried several hats and hat poses on the piece where Popeye and Olive kiss the little runt pirate. Thanks as always to Jerry Beck for getting me involved in once again professionally drawing my very favorite cartoon character.
I know I talk about them a lot, but here’s something that actually has value (hopefully).
When I was like 12, I was vaguely homo- and transphobic. I never had a problem with sapphics, but I felt weird about mlm, non-binary and trans people. I didn’t like it when people headcanoned characters as trans and mlm ships were notmy style. But then I started to delve deeper into the LBGTQ+ and the Owl House community. Then I turned out to be queer. Then I fixed my dislike of mlm and trans people. IDK, just seeing people talk about Jerbric and Huntric (yes, at the time those were popular) and seeing how normal they thought it was, it really helped. And now I’m an avid Huntric shipper, a big fan of Gusollomule and I headcanon Emira, Hunter and Anne Boonchuy to be trans. The Owl House community has directly freed me of homophobia.
But not just that! In a year, I have transferred so far on the LGBTQ+ community that I’m now a massive fan of poly ships. Talking about Sashannarcy and Willumity here. Bro, if you told me a year ago that people can have multiple partners and that it’s actually adorable, I would have been so confused. I went from a straight girl who tolerates sapphic people to a sapphic girl myself who went through two gender identity crisises, has queer friends left and right, thinks giving a gal one girlfriend isn’t enough and can’t go five minutes without making a fictional character queer. I just think the Owl House community is utterly amazing and I love every single one of you.
It’s actually very simple: all cartoon characters have Schrödinger’s junk. They exist in a quantum superposition of smooth like a Barbie doll and hung like a horse, and when you collapse the waveform it resolves to whichever option makes the joke land.
