EVERY YEAR Casey McQuiston will write a silly little book and for the first 50 pages I’ll be like “oh I am going to be normal about this” and then I’ll stay up til 4 am on a school night reading the rest of it in on sitting. I even have the audacity to be surprised each time

alex claremont-diaz went through a weird phase where he would carry around a fountain pen and obnoxiously sign things with it
he would be at a coffee shop and the barista would be like “please sign this receipt” and offer him a pen
but he would whip out a fountain pen from god knows where, and then sign the receipt with the ink smudging everywhere because it’s not meant to be used on receipt paper

Headcanon Imagine Alex getting engaged to Henry at the same time as Nora engaging June and, without planning it, Alex and Nora start to compete like in “Bride Wars” while Henry and June don’t know whether to laugh or worry.
Can you imagine the great weight on his shoulders that the future actor of Henry will have ? He has to literally make a perfectly imperfect interpretation of “Don’t Stop Me Now” for fans.
I adored Red, White, and Royal Blue so I was extra excited to read One Last Stop. However, for many reasons I was only able to do so recently but that turned out to be a perfect thing because I got to read this book while actually riding the subway — I was even on the Q at one point!
McQuiston has only grown as an author and I think what they managed here was really well done. It was a romance and a mystery and a delicious slow burn… all while being as queer as hell. It makes me so excited for all of McQuiston’s future books.
I especially love how they incorporated queer history into the novel and the many little ways in which real queer community and our larger shared history helped shape some of the more subtle and smaller parts of this story. McQuiston is a dynamite with words and this book deserves to be on all the lists it is on. It’s a hug and playful punch to the upper arm all at once. It’s a piece of magic that exists in its own right.
