Conflict and confusion are running behind us at each moment like shadows. It’s danger for many cases, isn’t it? Our shadows will kill us, if we aren’t aware how to shine repressed darkness. If we don’t know how to go through honestly express. We are constantly learning and changing, we don’t have time to destroy ourselves, when we must evolve. We couldn’t shine darkness fully, as we couldn’t fully eclipse light. Better to find relationship between those two.

All the time when I’m drawing/painting, I’m listening at my thoughts how they are processing precipitated information. During the process how I‘m finding all the time something new, which is actually connected to my current issues and how I‘m working about it after all, it’s process which I couldn’t explain fully, while it’s individual. But I see what is expression, when we are aware about our feelings, when we aren’t neglecting them and actively working about it.
It’s hardworking process, but has worth consequence.

Fellow artists! I’m having a problem getting good pictures of my work for large reproductions. Here is my home set up with softbox and a fairly good Nikon D 5200 (please don’t mind my big pregnant self on a chair). I use a tripod as well, and my pixel resolution is fine for enlargements, but I’m still not getting the quality that I want. Any advice?

Jose Alvarez (D.O.P.A.): opens Saturday, January 2nd at the @nortonmuseumofart!
The exhibition showcases a moving selection of nearly 30 ink portraits created by Venezuelan, South Florida-based artist Jose Alvarez during his time in Miami’s Krome immigration detention center in 2011. The artist, who was arrested for immigration violations after his visa expired, completed a series of portraits of fellow detainees while fighting for his freedom. The subjects’ personal histories will be presented alongside their portraits. At the time of Alvarez’s detention in 2011, his large-scale, site-specific installation was on view at the Norton as part of (April 2 – July 17, 2011), a major group exhibition.
@josealvarezdopa’s fascination with the pre-modern and the mythic is reflected in his use of organic, “non-ordinary” materials and his taste for elaborate, epic imagery. His acrylics and watercolors are strewn with porcupine quills, feathers, crystals and shimmering mica. Mixed-media fantasies offer up a densely packed cosmic biology. Alvarez’s works are visionary maximalist masterpieces: super-saturated Miró-esque dreamscapes that posit unsettling questions about the nature of visual reality and the interaction of art and consciousness.
