One of my dispatchers calls me. Says he has a weird one. I’m like okay, hit me.

“This guy wants a police officer to come out and stand by to keep him safe while he meets his drug dealer to explain that he has no money and can’t pay.”

Me:

Employee:

Me: Did you say he wants the police to stand with him while he waits for his dealer?

Employee: …..Yes. He’s not even there yet. He arranged this meeting in public in front of the library. He wants the officer to go first so he won’t be alone.

Just when I think nothing can surprise me, that damn phone rings again…

Me: “Communication supervisor.”

Caller: “Yeah I need to talk to that place where people go when they get arrested.”

Me: “You mean the jail?”

Called: “Yeah, something like that.”

Merry Christmas and happy holidays too ALL our first responders, as well as our men and women servin

fix to ch67

A minor fix: I just noticed that the speech bubbles were blanked out with a slightly different shade of white, such that you could actually see faint grey rectangles on the bubbles if your phone brightness was turned up (^^; The pages have been fixed on both Cubari and Mangadex now! Apologies for not spotting this earlier ‍♀️

PS: With V17 out, the redrawing on the last page has also been improved a bit too

correction to ch65

The first panel on Page 21 has been corrected to:

Comparison with the previous version, as well as the original text:

Thank you @rikaaki for spotting this! I was honestly confused by the overall intent of the text — which was kindly explained as something like, if you think about how Moran was dismissive of Louis in the past, to now have Louis show kindness to Moran (by backing him up here) feels a bit embarrassing for him

Apologies for the error: it’s been duly noted, and I’ll definitely pay more attention to these tricky parts in future chapters!

God, I wish we just got an update on the bee minigame from What Pumpkin or.. actually anything at all about it’s re-adding.

The bee minigame can actually now be accessed by (I believe, test if you must) using the bee dance on the stage outside Zebede Tongva’s house, completing it brings the bees to the hives outside of Zebede’s hive.

Very sorry for the mis-information provided in the other two submissions, A credible source for this information seems to have been informed wrong too and has yet to update it to reflect how it is actually achieved.

I haven’t tested this but from what I can tell it is the actual way they re-added it, this would be much easier if WhatPumpkin didn’t suck at communicating this.

(MOD RESPONSE: i absolutely am not in any state to test this atm, i’ll edit this post later with confirmation)

According to the Director’s Notes, it’s actually Kasper Rhodes with a K, and Charlie Bair, not Bear.

I’ve spelled it as “Bear” in probably a dozen transcripts, but I’ll try to fix them all.

Little leaf cutter bee waking up in her tiny leaf bed

(Via)

Rating:UNCLEAR

Leaf cutter bees build brood cells for their larvae in clay, wood, rock crevices, or holes left by other animals (depending on the species of leaf cutter). They line these holes with leaves to create a protective chamber for their larvae, which they then fill with pollen for them to eat. When these brood chambers are disturbed (for example when they’re removed from the hole they were built within), the larvae can die.

It’s unknown why these cells have been removed. If they were removed accidentally during yard work, and the person behind the video decided to incubate them, then the video could be rated “cute.” However, if they were removed on purpose and the person behind the video has no experience keeping or studying these bees, it would be “not cute.”

I’m particularly concerned because one entomologist/beekeeper suggested the larva in the bottom brood chamber died, judging by the crudely opened chamber and all the uneaten pollen spilling out. I’m not experienced enough with Megachilebees to say whether this is true or not.

From what I’m reading online its actually pretty common for gardeners to raise leafcutter bees and one step of the process to keeping a healthy population in your garden is to “harvest” the cocoons in the late stages of development. Keepers do this to take a count of their emerging bees, protect them from predators like parasitic wasps, remove parasite infested cocoons before they have time to spread to the other cocoons, and check for harmful bacteria growth again, before it spreads to the other cocoons.

I couldn’t find a source other than reddit for this particular video but it seems like common practice to remove the cocoons from the nesting material. Maybe I’m wrong and there is just a predatory market for bad faith bee keeping (which is absolutely 100% possible. Ive seen it with other insect “hatcheries”) so if someone has more knowledge then PLEASE correct me.

GIRL??????

Rating:NOT CUTE, DANGEROUS

This is a Portuguese Man O’ War, a hydrozoan that is often called a jellyfish, and more importantly, can sting just like one. Their venom is incrediblypotent, and both severed tentacles and dead specimens can inflict painful stings. In the bestcase scenario, their sting will cause excruciating pain and long, open welts for a few days. In the worst case scenario, their sting can cause fever and shock, or allergic reactions, which have been known to result in death. You should neverdirectly handle a man o’ war, especially not with bare hands in a cup like this.

If you are stung by a man o’ war, immediately seek medical attention. Common “household remedies” like vinegar can actually worsen stings, and there is no way to tell how someone will react to a sting.

I recently completed a DAN First Aid course specializing in marine life injuries and current guidelines still suggest using vinegar on all forms of jellyfish (even though man o’ war aren’t jellyfish, but I digress). Vinegar isn’t a just “household remedy,” its a legitimate first aid tool in stings that prevents further envenomation and allows for safe tentacle removal.

Telling people to delay first aid can be dangerous - even though some studies suggest that vinegar could make man o’ war stings worse, the current consensus is that vinegar is effective. If someone isn’t immediately familiar with the differences between man o’ war and jellyfish and decide not to apply vinegar in case it was a man o’ war, it could be deadly.

If you are stung by a jellyfish or a man o’ war, your best bet is applying vinegar, removing any tentacles, then applying warm water or a heat pack and seeking medical attention. Do NOT use urine, seawater or cold water, lemon juice, shaving cream, alcohol, etc as they further aggravates the injury.

(All of their other advice is solid - do seek medical attention as soon as possible. But do what you can do to stop further injury progression first.)
