So Cruella wasn’t amazing or anything, but it was okay. Most of the criticism is literally just flat out incorrect, especially since the writers are reinventing these stories. I’m not sure what you all were expecting for a children’s movie centered around a villain. Disney even made it clear they were reimagining the villains with Maleficent. But I think where they went wrong was advertising this movie as a prequel instead of using the reimagine vocabulary. This is not a prequel to the original, becausethis film, as is, doesn’t work with the original. The ending of Cruella implied that any plot involving the skinning of puppies in the future would be an embellishment and rumor that she’d let people believe. If she really was a dog murderer and wanted to harm the dogs for what happened she wouldn’t have made a fake fur coat while letting one that actually was involved in the killing get cozy by the fire. She had her chance and chose not to and then kept them as pets. This is like the argument that Jaime is going to turn back to kill C out of a jealous rage when he had plenty of opportunities to do that peak pain but didn’t do shit, which makes that motive highly unlikely.

And even if they ever do decide to make a sequel and keep her as the original and she does go full batshit, providing backstory never equals trying to excusefuture behavior, no matter how the context is framed or if you find the reason ridiculous or relatable. This mentality of not wanting any sort of sympathy or understanding in backstory is equivalent to the fools who didn’t want the FBI to learn about what made serial killers because they were uncomfortable with seeing them layered and explainable.

“From the very beginning I’ve always made a statement. Not everyone appreciated that, but I wasn’t for everyone.” - Cruella

Hai I am here to pure fangirl over the new Cruella movie because Emma Stone and Emma Thompson were absolutely killing it and I thought the whole thing was lit

CRUELLA CHARACTER ANALYSIS

“i didn’t [kill the dogs]. BUT, the world does need a villain to believe in and i’m happy to fit the bill.”

oh, cruella. my brilliant, exceptionally perceptive phenom. so this is one of my favorite pieces of social commentary of all time. here, cruella is delineating a societal paradigm of both sheer idiocy and unnerving oppression. one in which people forgo facts- the only things that are reflective of reality- to forge narratives that are amenable to their pre-conceived notions. such a paradigm aids in the sustenance of oppressive systems like racism and sexism. those with privilege who are hellbent on preserving their justly wielded power will stop at nothing to perpetuate false stereotypes by concocting narratives that couldn’t be farther from the truth. nevertheless, it is not truth that these people seek to unveil, but rather a tale that encourages others to subjugate marginalized peoples. take, for instance, a scenario in which a racist encounters a black man in a hoodie walking down the street. the racist proceeds to concertedly detail the black man as an insidious threat in their phone call to the police despite the presence of any evidence to corroborate the claim. so goes the tale of anti-blackness. navigating back to cruella’s situation, people choose to frame cruella as a so-called “dog killer” out of sheer, willful nescience: they are appalled at the notion of a young woman whose every action is done in the name of securing justice. it is unseemly to them. and this makes sense in that securing justice would mean the loss of immoral power they currently hold. as such, they attempt to burn her at the stake (figuratively speaking) in a social mauling to punish her for not allowing them to hold their deplorable ideologies. nevertheless, cruella leverages the stupidity to create a barrier of defense for herself. after all, who would dare challenge someone as machiavellian as a murderer of defenseless creatures? this is why she’s “happy to fit the bill.” for her entire life, she’s been assaulted at the hands of an unjust society. through this very society’s creation of a caricature of her, cruella is able to avoid the position of vulnerability her marginalized identities (woman, low socioeconomic status, mentally ill) and refusal to accept injustice rear. in conclusion: she is the best person ever ok bye

as a cruella stan, having a proclivity for fashion is lowkey a given but if you guys didn’t know…I LOVE FASHION. ok anyway the point is that i thought i’d start sharing more of that on this blog as it is a cruella (and emma, whose sense of style i also adore) blog after all. so this is my current handbag collection. as a pre-med student currently taking a gap year after having graduated college (cum laude, honors, and with three first author publications, tyvm…also feel like striving for perfection is a common trait amongst us cruella stans ) to study for the MCAT, i haven’t exactly had much time to allocate towards working. nonetheless, i spend all my extra funds on things i’m passionate about and as has been mentioned, fashion is one of those things. point being, maybe in a decade or so, my doctor’s salary will foster a massive collection, but for now, this is it. i try and save to buy one or two new bags a year. i am enamored with the stella mccartney fallabellas. their rigid, cool-toned chains elicit a sense of edge and their shape is amenable to vast amounts of storage. the body texture has a subtle gleam that evokes understated glamour. my next handbag purchase will likely be another one of them; just not sure which size yet

insert me being the real life cruella but pink bc the braiders ran out of white hair

the most beautiful woman to exist and i won’t take criticism on that statement

emma stone you will always be famous

emma stone at the 2022 met gala. she looks darling despite a lose interpretation of the theme so y’all better not slander

some cruellanita thoughts as a lesbian who so desperately wants them to be disney’s first openly wlw couple (but it’s disney so who i am i kidding…just waiting to be disappointed ): i spend a fair amount of time thinking back to the scene where the baroness confronts anita in an ever wretched fashion (she’s giving racist and elitist which is nothing surprising given her personality). also, if you’re not black, let me just tell you that when a white person suffocates you in that patronizing, “you’re inherently inferior” way which was evoked w every move and tone that bitch made…it’s racist. i digress, but that was important. anyway, i envision a plot line wherein anita tells cruella about this encounter which then percolates cruella with indignation such that she vows to make the baroness’ life a living hell part 2. and anita will play coy regarding what cruella is doing (perhaps a long awaited response to that day in anita’s office when cruella pretended she wasn’t for all intents and purposes flirting w anita…if you know you KNOW), which is (continuing to) fall in love w her but at some point, they’ll both let down their defenses and be direct ab how they feel towards one another. and they’ll live happily- but vengefully when need be, not to say that the two are always mutually exclusive- ever after. what can i say…they own me ‍♀️

drew this from the viewpoint of cruella sketching herself in a new design if that makes any sense goodbye. but that’s my name in the bottom right

more cruella makeup from her best protege i have the hair, the personality, the fashion (not here bc i was in my nightgown but ), the makeup…only missing that delectable accent
