ASK EDDIE - January 13 2022

FNF prez Eddie Muller responds to film noir fan questions fielded by the Foundation’s Director of Communications Anne Hockens. In this edition, we share our favorite NOIR CITY film festival memories, explain the process behind choosing the films that we restore and whether you can have a true film noir experience with digital presentation. Then we discuss what elements indicate a well-directed film and Eddie describes the process of recording the audiobook of DARK CITY: THE LOST WORLD OF FILM NOIR. On the cat front, Emily naps and Charlotte is her usual opinionated self.
We went longer than expected in this episode, so the second half of this conversation will air on Thursday, January 27, 7:00 PM PT on our Facebook page and will be up on YouTubethe following day.

Whatever happened to the ‘Urban Supernatural Horror’ genre of the 90s? They were usually set in unnamed, generic cities that were grey and cold and vaguely threatening in a soul-crushing way. They featured lonely broken characters who find their strength and will to live when they wander down the wrong alley and chance upon some dark horror that no one would believe.

Where did these movies go? Was it just Clive Barker the whole time?

Do you have any to add to the list? What was your favorite?

God he’s so beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

He was never supposed to be king.  Oh, he knew he was in the line of succession but his father had been the fourth brother.

His cousin Charlotte, only child of his Uncle King,  would be queen only Charlotte had died tragically young and her child with her.

His next oldest uncle had died in the arms of his mistress.  He had a dozen children but none of them legitimate.

His next uncle and his wife had two sons and a daughter.  One had died when he was just a few months old.  One had died of a fever as a young child.  The third had nearly made it to adulthood but Consumption had claimed him.

His last uncle and his plump pleasant wife had never had any children.

He was fourteen when he realized that when his uncle died, he would be king.

“If only your uncle can stay alive another four years,” His half-brother Ben had whispered softly as they did their lessons together.  “If you’re eighteen they can’t have Mama as your regent.”

Daniel nods, understanding what Ben isn’t saying.  Mama is too much under the influence of Sir Clayton Hand.  Hand wants power.  If Daniel becomes king before he’s eighteen, he’ll have power through Mama..

“You could be my regent,” Daniel suggests.

“I’m not old enough and not English enough,” Ben sighs.  “One of your papa’s brothers might do but Mama would throw a fit.”

Daniel nods because Mama would.  Hopefully Uncle William will last until Daniel is eighteen or Aunt Adelaide would get pregnant.

Aunt Adelaide did not get pregnant.  However, Uncle William had managed to live four years.  Daniel is  eighteen.  Mama and Sir Clayton had tried but Daniel, with Ben’s backing had coolly stared them down.

Now he is sitting in the drawing room waiting to meet his Prime Minister.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay?” He checks with Ben.

“Better I don’t, Liebling,” Ben tells him.  “Besides, you’ll be fine.  I’ve heard good things about Lord Murdoch.”

Daniel nods.  That’s true enough.  Everything he’s read in the newspapers about the Prime Minister suggests he is a clever and capable man.  Neither Mama nor Sir Clayton like the man, which is actually reassuring.  He’s supposedly a bit of a flirt  and there was a scandal of some sort about his  wife but that was years ago.  He can do this.

The man who enters the room is tall.  Tall with curly dark hair and brilliant green eyes and the face of an angel.

“Your Majesty,” The man bows as is proper.

“Lord Murdoch,” Daniel answers feeling dizzy.  He was not expecting to fall instantly in love with his own Prime Minister.

Hnnnnnnng I love it. I want more sweet young twitterpated King Daniel ❤️❤️❤️❤️

(and omg John marrying someone like Lady Caroline Lamb so they could be Beards for each other is so something he would do ❤️❤️❤️)
