In Season 2 of a show I watch, the lead female was revealed to be bisexual, and the showrunner has confirmed she’ll have a girlfriend in Season 3. I’m all for this, but I worry about fans treating it as her sole defining trait.

A mostly centrist stance, until it’s politically solvent to challenge the status quo. A typical politician with typical flaws. Decades of good-natured accomplishments that are peppered with problematic moments. The establishment favorite. Calm and calculated. Experience. Experience. Experience.

Joe Biden is Hillary Clinton with a dick. If she had one, it too would lean slightly to the left. And yet, Joe is seen as the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2020. If Hillary went for it, well – that would be ludicrous.

Personally,I’ve wanted Hillary to jump in the race since the day after the 2016 election. I wanted her to defy the media, who didn’t wait a wink to declare that her political career was clearly now over forever. One day, she’s expected to become the leader of the free world and the next, we never want to see her face or hear her name again.

Despite her fiery self-reinvention as a give-no-shits public speaker, author, and activist in the subsequent years. Despite how she earned 3 million+ more votes than that asshole who usurped her job. Bitch won the popular vote, despite what we now know was a coordinated attack against her by a hostile foreign government. Despite all of that – and still to this day - she is the most qualified human being who has ever sought the highest office in the land.

And still. Hillary Clinton, 2020? Get the fuck out of here. It’s time for Joe.

That’s right. Joe Biden. Who’s older than her. Who’s biggest advantage is a mere association with the President we all miss. The retired guy who’s riding the heels of his former boss. The guy who is only a little bit creepy with women. Good ole’ reliable Joe. If anyone can take down that monster—

Democrats, what the fuck are we thinking? This is the MeToo era! Women’s rights are being eroded. Children are being locked in cages. We NEED a nurturer, a femme, a goddess to beat Donald Trump, who just this week dismissed another rape accusation because the victim “wasn’t his type”. Yet nobody seems to think that the woman who already has beat him at the polls should try to scrub this stain on American history herself.

We fucked it up by playing it safe in 2016. We were ready for fundamental change and we clung to normalcy. That was Hillary then. This is Joe now. Now I wasn’t the biggest fan of Bernie Sanders, but he had his finger on the pulse and we pulled our hand away. I’m not saying that Sanders should win in 2020. I’m saying that our country has changed and our way of thinking needs to change with it.

Warren. Harris. Klobuchar. Gillibrand. Gabbard. All of these people would make incredible leaders. I’m not saying we should support these candidates because they’re women, we should support the candidates who we believe would do the most good for our country. I’m saying we should consider these people to be as likable, electable, capable, qualified, and ready for the presidency as we seem to consider Hillary Clinton with a dick.

Presidential Debate 2020

Took a sip of our debate-orade this morning in preparation for the first Presidential Debate of 2020. This map depicts the Presidential Election results from all the elections from 1789 to 2008. It was originally published by the USGS in 2009 for the National Atlas of the United States of America.

You can check out this map at our Digital Collections. [Image description: The image is composed of multiple maps of the United States ranging from 1789 to 2008. Each map shows who each state voted for and what party they represent. The election year 2008, the most recent election from map publication, is larger than the rest and actually shows the break down of counties.]

With the 2020 Democratic presidential debates in full swing, gun violence prevention experts want moderators of upcoming debates to ask candidates fact-based questions about firearm policy.

In the past, gun safety platforms have failed to break through during both primary and general presidential debates. In this election cycle, moderator Chuck Todd did bring up gun safety during the first democratic presidential primary debate on June 26, but he adopted a right-wing talking point that strengthening gun laws would require confiscation of people’s privately owned firearms, serving as an example of how not to question the candidates about their platforms.

Media Matters asked several gun safety experts how they’d like to see future debate moderators tackle questions about gun policy—here are some of their responses.
