Happy Pride Month to all of our followers! We are SO excited to celebrate this month with y'all!

Let’s talk about Teddy’s PRONOUNS!!!

It’s not technically canon, we strongly feel that Teddy, a Kree/Skrull (and a literal shapeshifter), is genderfluid.

In the conceptual notes for Young Avengers, Teddy was a shapeshifter who went out superheroing as a man and then lived day-to-day life as a woman. Heinberg’s idea was for Teddy to be “neither male nor female.” (Something we thought of before we found out about this concept. Minds. Blown.)

As they dig deeper into their heritage and learn more about who they are, it’s easy to imagine Teddy feeling a need to express the literal changeable nature of his body and gender identity. (It’s also easy to imagine Billy being extremely supportive!)

So from here on out, our version of Teddy is he/they. ❤️ Stay tuned for more Pride content coming this month!

Teddy was leaving Excelsior ALL over the apartment. What are you supposed to do with a mystical King of Space sword when you’re not battling for the galaxy?

Billy and Teddy show up to the Hellfire Gala serving these hot and spicy Space Husband Looks…what do you do?

In all honesty, one of our amazing followers asked us after last week’s comic: what would we dress Billy and Teddy in for the Hellfire Gala? We thought it’d be fun to give our take!

Here, we see Billy, Wiccan, YOUR Demiurge, dressed in an actual nebula and glowing like a star. We were inspired by the redesign of Wiccan’s costume in Style vs Substance, where the suit has a moving, living nebula in it, but just exploded it out to be something that would turn every head in the room. This costume is brought to you 100% by Billy’s infinite power; not everyone could keep a nebula hovering perfectly around their body at all times. But if you could do it, why the heck wouldn’t you?

Teddy is looking regal and hot in a McQueen SS’10 inspired outfit that has him serving Montero In Space vibes. If Colossus and Gambit are showing up abs out, then Teddy has to show what he’s got, too! We loved the idea of his piece tying in with Billy’s by using star/glitter fabric for the bulk of the pieces, with beautiful gold accents to go with it (mostly because gold on his green skin is just chef’s kiss). Along with gold eyeliner and beautiful navy lipstick, we thought adding make-up that nods to his skrull ancestry was also a fun addition to the piece. Oh, and maybe a couple more piercings than usual, just for some added sparkle… ;)

Full disclosure: we had a discussion about the most thirst-inducing poses while making this comic.

Us: SO WE’RE CHANGING OUR NAME!

We’re excited to say that from here on out, we’re going to be known as Wickling Comics!

Idiot Boyfriends will always have a special place in our hearts. That place looks a lot like somewhere in Latveria where Billy makes bad decisions and Teddy is threatening to maim Pietro.

Still, we’ve decided an ship name that’s an inside joke based on a couple of comic panels might not best exactly clear for people trying to find us.

Plus they’re married now so it doesn’t even really work anymore.

ANYWAY. That’s it for now.

Thanks for following along! We can’t wait to bring you more home-brewed Wickling content.

We’ve been watching WandaVision with the same rabid attention as many other Young Avengers fans on the internet. From the second there was a hint of the twins, we were plugged in. Ready for it.

We’ve been talking about making a comic playing with the idea of the show pretty much from episode one.

At the same time, just like many others, we’ve carried the disappointment at the whitewashing of Wanda’s character from her intro in the MCU. Wanda is Jewish. She is Romani. That’s something we want to honour in our comics as much as we can.

Listen, Teddy gets a lot of credit for being a handsome Space Hunk—for good reason.

BUT Billy doesn’t get enough credit for being a total babe. So here’s a comic about Teddy having the hots for his handsome magical nerd, ‘cause Billy deserves it.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…

June 2nd - Hulkling

Theodore ‘Teddy’ Altman is the son of the Kree hero, Mar-Vell, and the Skrull princess, Anelle.  The two had a brief affair in the midst of the Kree/Skrull War and the child was a closely guarded secret.  Fearing for his safety, Princess Anelle sent the infant away with her nursemaid.  The nursemaid brought the child to Earth hoping to leave him in the care of his father.  Upon learning Captain Mar-Vell had died, however, the nursemaid decided to raise the child herself and used her Skrull abilities to assume the guise of a single mother named Mary-Jo Altman.

Teddy appeared human throughout his childhood yet discovered his ability to shapeshift in early adolescence.  He had inherited this ability from his mother; along with greatly enhanced physical strength inherited from his father.

As a teenager, Teddy was asked by Iron Lad to help him form a new team of ‘Young Avengers’ in an effort to defeat Iron Lad’s older self, Kang the Conquerer.  Teddy agreed and assumed the alias of Hulkling.  The Young Avengers were successful in fending off Kang.  Teddy and his fellow Young Avengers, Wiccan, began dating shortly after forming the team.

Following further adventures, Teddy was abducted by The Super Skrull known as Kl’rt.  Teddy was told that his true name was Dorrek VIII, grandson to the former Skrull Emperor and heir to the throne.  Teddy had trouble believing this but was convinced when Kl’rt used a device that neutralized Ms. Altman’s shapeshifting abilities and revealed her to be a Skrull.   Kl’t then killed Ms. Altman and insisted Teddy return to Skrull space with him so to unite the fractured Skrull Empire.  Just then, solders of The Kree arrived, claiming Teddy as their own.  A battle ensued between the Kree and Skrull forces as well as Teddy’s Young Avenger allies.  The only solution that Teddy saw to end the conflict was to surrender.  The Kree and Skrulls came to agree that Teddy would spend half the Earth-year with the Kree and the other half with the Skrull and decide on his on which side he would ultimately declare his ultimate allegiance to.  After the two sides left it was revealed that the ‘Teddy’ who had departed was actually Kl’rt who had used his super Skrull powers to impersonate Teddy thus allowing the young man to remain on earth with his friends.

Following many more adventures, Teddy was once more approached by representatives of the Kree and Skrull peoples.  A tentative alliance between the two empires had been achieved and Teddy was asked to lead this new alliance and acted as a type of figurehead to further strengthen the union.  The prospect of being able to help put an end to countless centuries of war was too great of a responsibility to pass up and Teddy agreed to this request.  At the same time, Teddy’s relationship with Billy had deepened and the idea of being separated for good was too much to bare for either of them.  The Kree/Skrull union would likely not agree to Teddy’s being with a human mate so he and Billy superseded any such disagreement by arranging a quick marriage and a small marriage attended by the Young Avengers.

Teddy became Dorrek the Eighth, leader of the Kree/Skrull Alliance and commander of their joint forces.  The first great challenge to his rule was the threat of the Cotati.  Teddy had to devise a means of defeating these enemies without the use of The Pyre (a super weapon that would cause the earth’s sun to detonate in supernova).  Despite betrayals among his own forces, Teddy was able to prevail with the aide of The Avengers and Fantastic Four.  The victory cemented Billy’s position as king and greatly strengthen the union between the Kree and Skrull peoples.  In the aftermath of the victory, a celebration was held on the Alliance’s flagship where Teddy and Billy redid their wedding with a lavish ceremony in which Billy was formally inducted as prince consort and court wizard.  It was really nice.

Now situated on Throneworld II, Teddy has continued to guide the fledgling alliance in the hopes of a better tomorrow for the united citizens of the union, guarding it against the countless threats that are sure to come.

Hulkling first appeared in the pages of Young Avengers Vol. 1 #1 (2005).

So. Empyre.

1. I forgot how hard it is to read events

2. I forgot that genocides were actually Marvel’ thing

3. It turns out I have forgotten what it’s like to anticipate a new issue not with low-key dread, but with happy eagerness.

•  Oh my, did Marvel do stupidly plain plot with ridiculous spin-offs? (Empyre:X-men’s Mutant Zombies vs.Plant people?! Wtf?)

•   Did Avengers massacre fucking “peaceful” armada and brushed it off like it was nothing in the very first issue? And then proceeded to freak out about survivors killing Kotati during planet-side battles? (Hypocritical AND boring. Mah boys at YJ were doing after-battle clean up couple issues ago, much more relatable shit)

•   Did Kree and Skrull actually headhunted an emperor in the gay bar? (Yup. I also still think that this David/Tommy thing? Much yuck.)

•   Did Teddy and Billy marry in Vegas just because? (Wait, did they?)

•   But did it all happen coherently and beautifully? (Yes, yes it did)

image

Time permits, I’ll read it whole.

And the issue in which Teddy got himself this sweet ubersword.

Yup.

Honestly it’s a babe'st emperor both Kree ang Skrull could hope for
