After a little bit of a wait, the NIGHT TIME RANDOM ENCOUNTERS table is done :)

As always, a few tables may seem a bit repetitive but again, it makes the system work and ensures that all the tools you need are in front of you :)

The next table is most likely going to be a bit more…aquatic in nature so keep an eye for that within the next week

If you have ANY idea, suggestion of feedback about this table or future works, i really do like to have your input!

I have a deep love for Native American, Aztec, Mayan, and Incan Cultures. I also have a deep love for European History (my favorites being Pre-Roman Brittania, Ancient Greece, and Age of Exploration). I also love the fantasy genre and I am a huge fan of RPG (in case you couldn’t tell). Thus I love the games I am about to point out.

Dragons Conquer America and Chronica: Age of Exploration.

Both are historical fantasy games set in/around the age of exploration.

Both are epic.

DCA, by Burning Games, is a great game with a unique system that involves Dragon Riders, Werejaguars, Headhunting Tribal Necromancers, Conquistadors, Inquisitors, Missionaries, Courtesans, Aristocrats, and more as Player Options. There are spells that require human sacrifice, spells that enable you to become the vessel for the horsemen of the apocalypse, spells that enable you to summon a giant serpent, seduction magic, magic tattoos, and more. Also, Ave Maria and Pater Noster are spells for Christian Spellcasters, while the Norse are under the rule of Giants, King Arthur is still alive and leads an army of Fairies, Eastern Europe is ruled by Vampires, and the Muslims have allied with Djinn.  It is all really cool.

https://burning-games.com/dragons-conquer-america/

Chronica is a Pathfinder setting set in a historical fantasy version of our world during the age of exploration. There are Olmec Lizardmen, and Empire of Rakshasa, Atlantis, and The Library of Alexandria. You can be an Atlantean Elf, an Olmec Lizardmen, a Turkish Artillerymen, a Half-Rakshasa, and so much more. Also, Genghis Khan is back (he was frozen in stone all this time), and you should heed the rumors of the Bermuda Triangle. It is all really cool.

Gnoll (a D&D 5e Race)

(Artwork by @that-darn-hyena)

Gnolls, a race ranging from demonspawn to excitable hyenafolk. Gnolls are easily identified by their yipping laughter and voracious appetites.

Racial Attributes

Ability Score Increase: +2 Constitution

Age:gnolls reach physical maturity about the same age as humans and can live as long as 150yrs, but typically live around 80-90.

Alignment: gnolls come from nomadic societies that idealize chaotic demons and deities. They lean towards chaotic alignments.

Size: gnolls range from five to eight feet tall, averaging around seven feet tall.

Speed: your base walking speed is 30ft.

Darkvision: your time at night on the savannah has accustomed you to dark areas. You can see dim light within 60ft of you as bright light, and darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Gnollish Instinct: you have proficiency in the Perception and Insight skills.

Bite: you are proficient with a bite attack as a natural weapon, dealing 1d6 piercing + your strength modifier.

Gnollish Diet: you have a different set of rules for your body when it comes to what you can eat. Raw meat does not have to be cooked, and you automatically overcome any save against rotted or difficult to digest food. Additionally, you have advantage against saves caused by poison, and are immune to the poison condition.

Languages: you speak, read, and write common and up to one other language.

Savannah Gnoll

You are a denizen of the savannah, one who likely worshipped the Celebrant. Savannah gnolls love festival and celebration and want all take part with them.

Ability Score Increase: your Charisma score increases by 1.

Festive Magic: you learn the cantrip Prestidigitation and the first level spell Faerie Fire. Charisma is your modifier for casting this spell, and once you’ve cast Faerie Fire you cannot cast it again until you’ve taken a short or long rest.

Aardwolf

The most nomadic of the gnolls, aardwolf gnolls know the land best and easily find the best (and safest) ways to travel.

Ability Score Increase: your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Savannah Nomads: Whenever you make a Survival, Perception, or Investigate check to forage into or related to the wilds, you may add your proficiency bonus to the roll. If you are already proficient, you may add that bonus again.

Fang of Yeenoghu

You are a demonspawn of the Abyss, with fur tinged white and claws stained black. You hunger for flesh at all hours of the day and are filled with unholy strength.

Ability Score Increase: your Strength score increases by 1

Rampage: if you would reduce an enemy to 0 hitpoints you may immediately move up to half of your movement and make a bite attack.

cocoshomebrew:

Welcoming in the second month of my patreon with my first subclass, the Glutton patron for the Warlock class. Gluttons are greedy beings who will stop at nothing to satisfy their cravings, and those unfortunate enough to make pacts with them are given a taste of their insatiable hunger. I’d be really interested to hear your thoughts if you use this subclass in your home games!

Remember, the high quality PDF version of this subclass is avaliable on my patron-only dropbox alongside a bunch of other homebrew stuff (including more Warlock subclasses). Supporting me there gives you access to loads of exclusive stuff, and really helps to support me. You can find my patreon here.

“Giant” © Saryth Chareonpanichkul, accessed at his deviantArt gallery here

[Commissioned by @justicegundam82. An Italian giant, one said to cause earthquakes. Not a lot is available in English, and most of the readily Google translatable material I could find were about earthquakes, not giants.]

Orcolat
This immense giant has gray, craggy skin, a furrowed brow and a maw full of jagged teeth. It wears merely a loincloth, and carries an enormous spiked club. The ground trembles under its feet.

Orcolats, called earthquake giants by some, are enormous and ill-tempered giants responsible for many temblors and avalanches. They live in high mountain caves, hunting rocs, megafauna and other massive creatures for food. Orcolats are cannibals of a sort, and they will gladly prey on smaller giants if they get the opportunity. They are large enough to shake the ground around them as they walk, but can create even more intense earthquakes through magical means.

An orcolat is a dim and stupid creature, and has little culture beyond crafting of simple weapons. They have an inborn sadistic urge, and enjoy hurting creatures smaller than themselves (which is almost everything). Cleverer giants frequently manipulate them with gifts and food, getting them to provide security for cloud castles and other remote strongholds. According to giant lore, the orcolats are the products of a divine curse—their ancestors wished to be even larger and stronger than they were, and as their bodies swelled, their brains atrophied.

The average orcolat stands sixty feet tall. They speak Giant in halting voices, and rarely have vocabularies more than 100 words.

Wild Shape, Transmutation Magic, Armor of Agathy, anything really. We’re here to have a fun time after all.

Check out The Wagadu Chronicles | Big Announcement Soon (@WagaduChronicle): https://twitter.com/WagaduChronicle?s=09

There is a systemless supplement called The Metamorphica (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/115703/The-Metamorphica-Classic-Edition). It is great. I love it. Full of random tables for mutations such mental, physical, psionic, supernatural, etc. mutations as well as descriptions of them. There are sections on using mutations for different genres and there are even a collection of different mutated NPCs and monsters.

In the Planescape 5e campaign I DM we have a character who recently got trapped in Limbo and now he has a very short temper (Behavioral Mutation) and the ability to duplicate (like Multiple Man but limited to one copy). It gives him a boost in power but it is thematic and a lot of fun. There is also risk involved. Does he sacrifice his duplicate so his party can escape, or does he save it for later and risk his party’s safety and survival.

I have an idea to run an X-Men Campaign where everyone randomly generates their Mutant using the random tables to create their characters. The idea being the Mutants in X-Men didn’t get to choose their Mutations, unless you count Mister Sinister  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, so neither will the players. I think it could be fun.

But you could use The Metamorphica to create (and even play) Post Apocalyptic Irradiated Wastelanders, Chaos Warped Demonic Abominations, Body Horror Experimentation Victims, Super Soldiers, Superheroes, Bizarre Alien Lifeforms, Formless Dream Entities, Eldritch Monstrosities, or beings trapped in Limbo.

Mutations range from Anthropomorphic Animal to Hunchback, from Double Jointed to Diabetic, from Genetic Memory to Dyslexia, from Magnetic Control to Cause Insanity, from Animated Tattoos to Cannot Cross Running Water, and so many more.

There is so much you can do with this product. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it. This review is not sponsored, I did not receive money from them or anyone else to review this. I simply gotta spread the love of an awesome product. 5 out of 5 stars.

[There were some complaints about this one when this PDF released. People wanted a killer rabbit ala Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but the whole appeal to me of Night of the Lepus is that the rabbits are 100% ordinary except for their size. And their occasional, inexplicable bloodlust. The original version had a kick attack that did Str x. 2 damage, but that’s been removed in favor of an ordinary bite. Both because real rabbits bite when cornered, and because I had a cavalier player with a dire rabbit mount whose mount was positively broken at high levels.]

Dire Rabbit
CR 1 N Animal
The only thing out of the ordinary about this rabbit is its size—the animal stands half as tall as a man at the shoulder.

Overgrown relatives of ordinary rabbits, dire rabbits are inoffensive but can prove dangerous if cornered and destructive in numbers. Like their smaller brethren, they are strict herbivores and eat grains, roots and leaves. Diurnal creatures, they are most active during the day and return to their burrows once the sun sets. Dire rabbits are not very stealthy, relying on their keen senses and great speed to avoid predators. They will, however, fight savagely if cornered or confronted in their burrows. Dire rabbits tend to live communally in warrens, the burrows of which can extend for miles. These burrows contain a number of individual rabbits or mated pairs that live in loose association with each other and with no hierarchy.

Dire rabbits grow to maturity very rapidly and are extraordinarily fecund. Predation and disease generally keep the populations of dire rabbits in check, but massive surges in dire rabbit populations are not unknown. During such outbreaks, dire rabbits can blacken the plains with their numbers and do massive damage to croplands and grain stores. A dire rabbit stands about two feet high at the shoulder and weighs seventy pounds. Dire rabbits can be found in grasslands, forests and tundra. Arctic dire rabbits have the ability to shed their brown summer coats and grow thick white fur during the snowy winters—these dire rabbits gain a +4 racial bonus to Stealth checks made in snowy conditions.

Dire Rabbits as Animal Companions
Starting Statistics: Size

4th-Level Advancement: Size Medium;Attackbite (1d4); Ability Scores Str +4, Dex -2, Con +2

A dire rabbit is a suitable mount for a Small cavalier of at least 4th level and can be called using the divine bond class feature of a Small paladin.

Now I gotta make a Leshy Druid with a Dire Rabbit. Either that or a Halfling Cavalier with a Dire Rabbit.

I will run through some simple guidelines on how to play a Vampire in D&D only using official content.

For Race pick Elf. Elves are long-lived, can go into a trance, are perceptive and dexterous, can’t be put to sleep, and can resist magical charming. For subrace, we have a few options:

1. High Elf is our best choice. If you take high elf, take one of the following cantrips (Chill Touch, Minor Illusion, or Frostbite). For the language pick any, but some thematic ones are the following (Infernal, Sylvan).

2. Shadar-Kai.

3. If Eberron (or at least Eberron rules) are allowed then the Mark of Shadow Elf is decent too.

For class: Bard, Fighter, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard are best.

College of Whispers or College of Glamour Bard

Eldritch Knight Fighter

Assassin, Mastermind, or Arcane Trickster Rogue.

Archfey, Undying, or Hexblade Warlock.

Illusion, Enchantment, or Necromancy Wizard.

NOTE 1: For Archfey you could say that your patron is a Vampiric Fey. Or you could say Vampires (or at least the first Vampires) are/were a type of fey (Unseelie) or were created by said fey. OR you could say that your Patron is a Vampire and not a fey but that the Fey Patron subclass best represents it.

NOTE 2: If you wanna play a Monstrous Vampire like the Nosferatu from Vampire the Masquerade or Vampire the Requiem, or you wanna play a vampire who has given in to the beast/hunger than Barbarian works as well. Also for the aforementioned Nosferatu Vampire or an outcast vampire hermit, you could take Circle of Spores Druid (if Ravnica options are allowed).

Important Skills to take are Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Acrobatics, Persuasion, Intimidate, Arcana, History, Religion, Perception, and Insight.

Good backgrounds are Noble, Hermit, and Haunted One (or make your own).

If you are a spell caster your damaging spells should focus on Necrotic, Cold, and Psychic damage. Summoning and Shape changing spells are always good.

Some Great Spells: Bane, Charm Person, Command, Fog Cloud, Jump, Find Familiar, Longstrider, Faerie Fire, Shield, Blur, Darkness, Detect Thoughts, Hold Person, Invisibility, Magic Weapon, Mirror Image, Misty Step, Pass without Trace, Ray of Enfeeblement, See Invisibility, Shadow Blade, Spider Climb, Suggestion, Bestow Curse, Conjure Animals, Fear, Fly, Gaseous Form, Haste, Major Image, Revivify, Slow, Speak with Dead, Vampiric Touch, Water Walk, Black Tentacles, Dominate Beast, Phantasmal Killer, Inflict Wounds, Polymorph, Contagion, Enemies Abound, Danse Macabre Dominate Person, Modify Memory, Scrying, Telekinesis, Expeditious Retreat, Mass Suggestion, Soul Cage, Truesight, Maddening Darkness, Time Stop.

Vampiric Touch is a must.

For Conjure Animals I recommend:

CR 0 - Bats, Rats, Ravens

CR 1/8 - Blood Hawk, Stirge, Giant Rat, Poisonous Snake

CR ¼ - Swarm of Bats, Giant Bat, Wolf, Constrictor Snake, Giant Poisonous Snake, Swarm of Rats, Swarm of Ravens.

CR ½ - Swarm of Insects, Swarm of Rot Grubs

CR 1 - Dire Wolf

CR 2 - Giant Constrictor Snake, Swarm of Poisonous Snakes

NOTE: Cast Polymorph on yourself to become a Dire Wolf or Giant Bat.

For melee combat focus on dex builds whenever possible. Mixing Magic and Melee are great ways to feel vampiric.

Archetypical Vampires you can create include the following: The Shadowy Killer (Jack the Ripper; History), The Seductive Predator (Alucard; Castlevania), the Monster in the Dark Woods (Gangrel; VtM), The Blooddrinking Noble (Elizabeth Bathory; History), the Hungering Beast (Nosferatu; VtM), and many more.

The point is you can, with a little imagination, build a Vampiric Character using only official options.
