Ever After: A Cinderella Story(1998)

You have more conviction in a single memory than I have in my entire being.

ruzekburgess:

Anyone who can quote Thomas More is well worth the effort. The Prince has read Utopia?I found it sentimental and dull. I confess, the plight of the everyday rustic bores me.I gather you do not converse with many peasants.Certainly not, no! Naturally.Excuse me, Sire, but there is nothing natural about it. A country’s character is defined by its everyday rustics, as you call them. They are the legs you stand on. That position demands respect, notAm I to understand that you find me arrogant?Well, you gave one man back his life… but did you even glance at the others?

One of my all time favorite movies.  I’ve watched it so many times I can recite every line in every scene.  I love that the character of Danielle is shown to be vulnerable and struggle internally with her place in the world, yet she can find strength all on her own and fight her own battles.   The prince doesn’t fix her problems, but he does add to her life in a positive way and she his. That is what makes this a believable fairy tale.

I also love this scene, because sometimes we need to ask others for help. The world can be a cruel place and having a great support system is a wonderful thing. Danielle can fight her own battles, but she’s also willing to ask for help and embrace her support system.

back on my oaut bullshit ( aka the first show i ever obsessed over and the first show i wrote a fanfiction that i actually finished ) ( technically speaking i finished season one of the story before season two came out so it had an ending but i was gonna add more once season two was released but during that time i reread it ( i was 12 at the time and at the peak of my marianas trench phase ) and realised it sucked and went bye bye and threw it to the void.

however i am ( ten years later still a huge marianas trench fan and a ouat fan, especially the first two seasons ) getting back into that show again like i do annually and i want to rewrite ( for like the seventh time ) my ouat fic i wrote when i was twelve and cringey because listen the bones of the plot went hard my writing did not! SO here i am in 2021 rewriting my ouat fic!!

It will now be called

SHALLOW GRAVES FOR SHALLOW HEARTS gotta get that Ever After by marianas trench references in there because they’re the ones who started it all!! instead of porcelain because it sounds better and the MC is a heartless ( literally ) bitch who wants back her heart!!

( also please go listen to Marianas Trench’s album EVER AFTER because it goes so hard and it deserves more attention and there’s a fairytale story attached to it!! )

a list of things to love about ever after(1998)

  • socially conscious danielle Lecturing her bf about ingrained prejudice and class warfare literally every time they are together
  • danielle just fuckin throwing apples at the crown prince of france for daring to steal her father’s horse
  • “i thrashed him” cut to tiny gustav covered in mud
  • i will deny you the throne and siMPLY LIVE FOREVER
  • leonardo da vinci just…. in general
  • danielle being ride or die with her manor servants to the point where she spends a literal fortune to get one of them out of indentured slavery
  • “you may have whatever you can carry” *fucking picks up the prince of france*
  • jacqueline always being on danielle’s side and befriending her
  • little history things like terrible tennis, utopia, the introduction of chocolate, a newly painted mona lisa, etc
  • the Theme Song™
  • “it looks like rain” danielle’s FACE
  • it’s supposed to be in france but no one speaks french or has a french accent
  • the Villain with his Villain Mustache
  • “were the only the two of you?” “yes. well, and the chicken sire”
  • you have TWO HANDS make it YOURSELF /mic drop
  • *throws temper tantrum* “there was a bee”
  • danielle’s Entrance to the ball looking like an ethereal angel from another realm
  • henry showing up for a Dashing Rescue but danielle’s already saved herself
  • the PAINTING
  • the entire thing is basically a story to one-up the grimm brothers which i can get behind
  • Dougray Scott (the prince) in these pants
  • Dannielle’s childhood friend who is never anything else than just a really good friend, no nice guy™ to be found here, just two besties
  • an evil stepmother who is still a three-dimensional character, which makes her treatment of Danielle even more heartbreaking
  • Danielle’s character is defined by her passion, mind and yearning for justice and the prince explicitly tells her that he falls in love with her because of the way she thinks and how eloquently she can argue her causes
  • the prince is the one who has to learn from her and have character development to be worthy of her
  • a blatantly romantic movie that is still genuinely funny and smart and really well made and acted and proves how good that genre can be

“michelangelo is trapped under a ceiling in Rome”

IF YOU

suffer your people to be ILL-EDUCATED

and their manners corrupted from INFANCY

and then PUNISH THEM for that which their first education DISPOSED THEM

what else is to be concluded,

SIRE,

but that you first MAKE THIEVES

and then PUNISH THEM?

if you ever wanted to know what i consider one of the best possible movie renditions of cinderella to be, this is it

and i know it’s on the list but seriously, the scene for “you may have whatever you can carry” is THE BEST go watch it
