Last year I made a “Sfé Aesthetic” desk calendar as part of an ongoing effort to help me keep better track of things. For fun, I made a point of photographing a page of it every month over on my instagram.
This is a collage of the results, which looking back on I’m really pleased with :) It was a fun project, and one I intend to carry on! I have a new PDF available on Patreon (assembled by my friend Jam - http://angelamelick.tumblr.com/ ) of 67 cats we drew together in 67 days between March and May of 2018. Getting into the habit of drawing one thing a day, consistently, every day, was one of the greatest things I did in 2018, and I love that it started with this sweet, simple daily drawing project. (I know cats aren’t my usual go-to subject matter, but you’ll find out why I was drawing them when you read the PDF.)

Here is a two page preview of the comic I made as part of the For The Love Of Monstersanthologycurrently fundraising on Kickstarter! It’s a monster romance anthology, which is one of my most favourite genres, and I’m so excited I got to be a part of this book!
My comic is called “(Don’t) Let Them Consume You” and is a short surreal story about love and longing and the desire to remain constant and consistent in the face of change. Also… it’s about a big maw and lots of teeth because, look: it’s 2018 and (Marge Simpson voice) I just think they’re neat.

Here’s something really cool! A couple months ago I was commissioned to do creature design for this trailer for an animation called Each And Every Night being made by Julie Yllogique! It is literally the coolest thing to see the creatures I designed come to life and move around, and I love the story Julie is creating. Feelings and anxiety and queerness and many many many eyes. Quite literally all of my favourite things.
For years I’ve been working on an aesthetic project called The Wolf That Only You Can See. Last year I started offering special commissions for “pocket wolf wards” based on a single prompt word supplied by the commissioner. It’s some of the most fun and satisfyingly challenging work I’ve ever been able to do. I love drawing these wolfves. I love them so much.
For awhile, now, I’ve been trying to draw a fashionable monster every week. They were initially inspired by watching America’s Next Top Model, but now they’re just kinda… whatever I think looks nice. I made this last year! Or at least to reflect on some stuff that happened last year and the ongoing process of Getting Over It. 2017 was pretty painful and I spent 75% of it feeling very overwhelmed and fragile; what I learned tho, is that whatever state you’re in you’re currently incubating your upcoming self who will emerge when they’re good and ready, and the work you put in now will ensure your upcoming self will be stronger, happier, and less afraid. So it’s worth it to get through it! Because once you get through it then it’s Done and that new you can look back and go “hm.”
2018 continues to be a very weird year, but at the very least for the rest of my life I’ll be able to say “at least it’s not 2017.″
Here’s an illustration I did for the Faerie Fire Anthology (a bestiary expansion for tabletop gaming with an emphasis on glitter, glitz, and glamour)! My creature was the Crystal Chameleon which was decadent and ridiculous and super fun to draw.
I haven’t used Tumblr in a very long time but I’d like to get back in the habit of updating with things I am/have worked on!

A little over a year ago I made a comic about my general frame of mind immediately before going into top surgery, called This Will Be Worth It. And then, roughly a year later, I made this follow-up comic called One Year Later, featuring my weird analogy selves and their liminal space.
I had it on Patreon for awhile, but now here it is now for tumblr, a day after National Coming Out day. Top surgery was the absolute best thing for me, but it was a lot of work and has taken so long to unpack, and a year and a half later I’m still decompressing.
This comic is a complicated one. It’s got pros and cons, and weird analogies, but mostly it’s a shout-out to the people who helped me get through what was easily the scariest, most uncertain time of my life. I’m so very, very grateful for them and the help and support they lent me in a time where I absolutely could not have done what I did without them.
Top surgery doesn’t fix everything, and it isn’t for everyone. I had the same life problems and issues coming out of surgery that I had going in. However, it also helped me get a footing in a way I never had been able to, and allows me to get through my days and experience life in a way I never could before. (I can go outside now? I can travel? I spend time with friends!) I’m glad for it, and though things are still complicated, I have never not even once looked back.

I finally finished up the coloring on my jellyfish mermaid! Trying to get back into a mermaid frame of mind- gearing up for #mermay2018! This one was from the first Mermay, a couple years ago- took me long enough to finish her up, but I’m pleased with the colors. What do you guys think? Any other mermaids I should finish up with color?

Finished up this girl in watercolors- I went with my friend’s suggestion of using a mint green with bronze accents to finish out her dress, and experimented a bit with the flowers behind her. What do you guys think?
#tbt (On a Wednesday) to a drawing of my last D&D character, Velda! I loved playing her, and I was sad when this game ended! (Mostly our fault for moving away.) I was pleased with how she came out in this drawing. Got a new character now, I’ll draw her soon!
Sorry there hasn’t been as much stuff from me recently- wedding planning and new job are taking all my time and energy! I’ll try to draw more in the next few weeks, I promise!
