So this is the slimmer Ty Ollson (*sobs*) from Flash Gordon and he still looks great. I normally would crop the images but a great friend of mine loves the other guy, Shawn Roberts (he played Wesker in Resident Evil: Afterlife).

What if… Robin’s suit had been inspired by another of Alex Raymond’s designs?
So, if we believe that Jerry Robinson was inspired by this design in a Flash Gordon story (1937) when he drew Robin… (And personally I think they are so much alike that it’s likely, even if he didn’t remember it himself when he talked about it many years later.) What if some other design by Alex Raymond had caught the eye of the Bat-creators in 1940?
(Ps. In the name of having fun, I’m ignoring that several of these designs are later than 1940.)
