Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones / Natalie Portman as Senator Padme Amidala
This is the (in)famous dinner dress Padme wears for the firelight scene where she tells Anakin they can’t be together. I read that this costume was actually designed by George Lucas, which just raises soooo many questions about that tight corset top. Personally, I prefer the look with the feather cape.
The ominous-looking scarf is an intriguing touch. It’s been said that it looks like a dark hand choking her, hinting at her eventual fate; I have to admit that I always thought of it as showing how she felt caged and stifled by the forces keeping her from being honest about her feelings for Anakin.
I’m wondering if the skirt might be burnout velvet.
I seem to remember Natalie Portman herself raised questions about the corset top!
That’s really interesting about the scarf, I’ve not heard that before. It makes sense, though. I’d always assumed it was a ‘don’t show too much cleavage’ device!
New style with Anakin and Padmé because they’re adorable and I’m sad now
