Selling baby for 70g on auction house, hope someone here will like their colors
*dusts off old blog*
hello I have returned to the business of dragon arts
Eggs. More specifically dragon eggs.
This post addresses one of the key problems in FR. How Sorniath dragons reproduce without hurting themselves via ridiculous size differences, conking out a pointy egg made of lava that may or may not be larger than the dragon’s own head, etc.
It’s fairly simple really.
The dragon species are actually species and are biologically incompatible through natural processes, so two dragons can only really dance the horizontal hokey pokey and have kids if they’re the same breed
All other cases are those of magical reproduction which is much easier and safer as it eliminates the possibility of miscarrying and allows propagation of dragon kind over mismatched channels
Dragons assemble eggs from whatever they like (each flight has traditional materials by which to do this) and imbue them with their own magical signature. The actual production bit comes from the magic of the local deity. This is the part that does all the work. The only other thing the parents do is restore their magic every so often (incubation periods) and then give the eggs the final magical shove they need to hatch once the dragon is formed. As a side effect of this, the hatchling’s element is that of the deity which formed them not necessarily that of the parents and the breed will be dominated by one side or the other making true hybridization an extremely rare occurrence.
Furthermore, the colors of the offspring (the product of magical mixing rather than true genetic mixing) may or may not be in line with what one would expect given the colors of the parent
“”“Natural reproduction”“” which is to say
fuckingdoing the do is a rather uncommon practice in contemporary Sornieth and is a concept which some more “”“civilized”“” groups my may find unpleasant or uncouth to consider.Eggs produced via natural reproduction are much less showy than those manufactured for magical reproduction. They may take on hues or slight alterations based on elemental energies absorbed but are typically uniform. On the other end of the spectrum, A surge in a deity’s power may result in the passive imbuing of appropriately sized objects in the wild creating foundling eggs. Because of the nature of magical reproduction, these eggs require an intentional magical push from a dragon in order to hatch, and will produce a hatchling with random colors and the alignment of the land in which they were found/the deity which created them.
Something I forgot to mention in this post!
The number of eggs one pair produces at one go lies between one and five and is dependent on the conditions at the time as well as the pairs compatability with one another. Additionally some times it doesn’t take.
Regardless of this, giving away such a large portion of ones own magic is exhausting and it can be dangerous to give away so much in a short span of time.
Fae and tundras, strong mages, recover their reserves at a higher rate. Mirrors regenerate quickly in general and are ready to go quickly. Guardians are not very strong in terms of reserve generation, but they’re large enough and don’t cast often enough for it to become a problem.
Magical reproduction flips the entire concept of sex for dragons in Sornieth. Terms of “male” and “female” are often in reference to magical compatibility.
My precious boy, a sky sky sand G1 named Katchina, is about to be color switched.
Look at him now. Beautiful.
Look at him covered in blue paint. *weeping*
Don’t let them do this to my boy. Vote for original obelisk manes to save Katchina.
jk I’m not actually that spoiled. Vote how you want. But I will be very sad if the change sticks and I have to sell my son.
*whispers* I was conspiring to sell my son before this happened. Don’t tell him.
