DIY #Hello2016 @ Old Blue Last
The second free DIY Magazine #Hello2016 gig at The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch on 12 January 2016, with Trudy, Willie J Healey, Bruising and Diet Cig.
Lola Colt played a free gig at Shacklewell Arms on 8 October 2015, supported by Danish noise merchants Deadpan Interference.
Saint Agnes headlined a show at Sebright Arms on 23 October 2015, supported by The Hungry Ghosts and Satsangi.
Norwegian band Slutface played their first UK gig at Old Blue Last on 24 October 2015 to launch their new single Shave My Head, supported by Annabel Allum and Rickyfitts.
ELIZABETH COTTEN
The folk legend was born in North Carolina in 1895. A left-handed banjoist and guitarist before Hendrix, Cotten learned how to play from a young age and scrounged up enough money to buy a Stella guitar from a local store for a whopping $3.75. Though she didn’t immediately pursue a career in music, a chance encounter with a young Peggy Seeger led her to work for the future folk icon’s family. They had her put on performances at their house, playing for the gilded likes of John F. Kennedy. She didn’t release her first album, Elizabeth Cotten: Negro Folk Songs and Tunes, until she turned 62. In 1985, she picked up her first Grammy award for Elizabeth Cotten Live.

Born Lizzie Douglas in 1897. A blues guitarist. A singer. A scrappy fighter who turned Chicago into her musical stomping ground. Her most prominent collaborations were with Kansas Joe McCoy, her second husband.

Actress Kecia Lewis played Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the 2016 Off-Broadway play Marie and Rosetta. The story, set in Mississippi in 1946, revolved around Tharpe and her protégé Marie Knight (played by Rebecca Naomi Jones).
