Been having fun in #Shoreditch and #Dalston with Jenny. Rummaging in charity shops and walking along Regent’s Canal. Loved trying on the skirts and dresses. I like different styles it complements my character. Enjoying the scenery especially the bladerunneresque night scene.
The Ship of Adventures - Hackney Pirates, E8. Yesterday I visited a rather special place on the Kingsland High Street; bookshop, gift shop café and events space of the Hackney Pirates charity whose mission is “working to develop the literacy, confidence and perseverance of young people in Hackney, so that they achieve both in school and in the world beyond.” They use wild wondrous theme-ing of The Ship of Adventures to run reading and creative writing lessons and activities for children 9 to 12 to help them attain the learning and skills to prosper in life. Much of the young people’s work is formally published and available to buy in the shop! Plenty here for grown ups too; a good selection of top tomes for readers young and old, hand made crafts by the groups based in the project and outrageously good coffee and food. With every turn of the head you notice yet another facet of the very lovingly conceived space. Whether you have children or not, expect to spend several happy hours on your visit to The Ship of Adventures. http://www.hackneypirates.org/shipofadventures/
Burley Fisher Books, E8. Delighted to see another NEW bookshop open in the city. The BF guys get it; they have successfully fused everything I love about traditional bookshops with a modern space (and particularly triumphant coffee…) Theirs is truly great taste in contemporary fiction (check out their blog,) and I thoroughly recommend you go in and chat them up for the skinny on what you need to be reading next. Modern and classics selections are equally well rounded out with hand picked stacks. Make a date for this one pronto! http://www.burleyfisherbooks.com/

The fantastic Rochat came today to deliver our new etching press! It’s fair to say we are over moon and were practically salivating at the sight.
They came early this morning in the sweltering heat and worked their socks off until all the cogs and nuts & bolts had been fitted. Then the guys gave it good old grease and a polish and it was good to go.
This one is a beauty. It’s smooth & silent and we cannot wait to see her in action!
Hats off to David and Phil who did a grand job today and will be returning on Friday with some more new equipment - keep your eyes peeled!
You’ll be able to come and see all of our new equipment at our open studio coming up this month….more announcements about this to come soon!
Ghost[ed.] is a suite of eight limited-edition stone lithographs by eight artists, published in 2015. The project to realise it was devised and co-ordinated by Sue Baker Kenton and Nicole Polonsky, who met at one of ELP’s breakfasts for new members. Joining them as contributors to the suite are ELP’s own Caroline Whitehead, open access-user Edit Toaso, as well as Gino Ballantyne, Jessie Brennan, Tim Brown and Hen Coleman. Ghost[ed.] will be launched at an exhibition at Dean Clough in Halifax which runs from Saturday 13 June – Sunday 6 September 2015.
Ghost[ed.] evolved from the ‘ghost’, or residual image, which remains within the lithography stone after printing. The ghost is usually removed entirely by the process of graining. In Ghost[ed.], graining was only partial. This allowed the residual image to be retained and printed again as a reduced version of the original.
Ghost[ed.] lithographs emerged sequentially: after an initial ‘catalyst’ image which got the project underway, contributors were invited in turn to devise a new ‘key’ image in response to the ghost of the one that came immediately before. The two elements were then incorporated into a single print, with one superimposed over the other - a key image by one artist and the ghost of the previous one by another. Instead of being erased, the ghost is an active and dynamic component of the eight pictorial schemes.
We are not aware of any precedent in lithography practice for combining ghost and key images in this way.You can read more about the suite and see images of the complete edition at www.ghosted.co.uk.
