I may not live to see our glory, but I will gladly join the fight.

So not my usual JSE content, and IDK how relevant Hamilton is anymore- buuuut I rewatched it a bit back and decided to do a sketch. May or may not end up going full out on it, we’ll see

Here is Part 2 of my Marliza diptych which explores the recurring and contrasting leitmotifs in Hamilton (in this instance, helplessness). :D And, below are the two girls side by side.

Eliza: first love, beginnings, creation, song of innocence

Maria: worldly love, endings, destruction, abuse, song of experience

This one is for the anon who requested Marliza, whoever you are. I hope you see this! <3

This is supposed to be part of Marliza diptych - a contrasting Eliza / Maria two-piece - which I’m working on. It explores the leitmotifs that occur and re-occur in Hamilton. In this particular instance, the theme of helplessness with the line ‘Boy you got me / Helpless’ vs. ‘Don’t leave me with him / Helpless’.) Eliza’s is the Song of Innocence (to use a William Blake metaphor) so it exudes new beginnings, first love/innocence; Maria’s will be the Song of Experience and will have darker connotations, as the line itself does.

I re-sketched my Eliza in a format more suitable for animations/movement. She’s such a cinnamon roll, isn’t she?

When you realize Laurens is too hecking coot and smol to draw without great difficulty and you’re calculating pouf sizes and you see both Phillip and John in it #workinprogress #sorryforthemess
