dreaming of a home library…

who doesn’t love octavia e. butler? grabbed this text off of my bookcase as i was walking out the door one morning because it was small & could easily fit in my pocketbook. a relatively interesting tale of a young black woman’s unexpected rise to power.

  • 3.0/5.0
  • don’t get me wrong this book had me on the edge of my seat at some moments, but those were few. having previously read kindred i guess i was expecting something very similar or as entertaining, but was left disappointed. because it was a quick read i gave it a bit of a higher rating, it should also be mentioned that i did not read the prequel to this text, but didn’t not find this to be an issue in any manner. if you’re into science fiction, life extension, reincarnation, mental magic, afrikan history, aliens, astral projection, kemetics, sociology & things of the like or just have some idle time on your hands this book is for you.
  • not exactly sure how this text found it’s way into my library, but it did. im going to hold on to it simply because it is one of two octavia books in my possession, however i do not know if i would purchase it. that being said i would suggest borrowing this text from your local library & decide for yourself it should have a home in your collection.

I don’t post here anymore, but I still have my notifications on, and I saw that my bookshelves are being reblogged a lot lately.
But they don’t look like that anymore, so if anyone is still interested, here they are!
Still color coded, and ready to give a heart attack to anyone who have OCDs lol

Just checking in. I’ve been pretty quiet on here recently. So hi. I’m working a lot and missing having time to read so much.

I really wish I had taken progress photos, but here is an update!

So back in July we decided to move, again, but this time we bought a house. We have been working on converting some of the space so that it could fit my collection. So I’m happy to share this little update with you guys.

There is one last section of flooring to be laid, The left wall needs a little more compound and then sanding and painting. We have to finish laying the trim at the bottom and put in the corner mold, and then of course the painting, but after that it will be completed!

My small library is one of the things that brings me the best solace in my anxiety/depressed moments so I can’t wait for this to be finished. I can’t believe this room used to be a sports bar.

I’ve always wished to have my very own Library…and now I’ve got two at once!!!

My new job is a school librarian and I’ve created it from scratch (what a dream!)

And now I have my very own (mini) library at home for my birthday which is next Wednesday.

“The System”

People occasionally ask me how I organize my books.  Here you go!  This is most of the books I own, and a broad rundown of how they’re organized.  Nothing is alphabetical, but with very rare exceptions authors are together, stuff is shelved by genre and, more importantly, who will see and read them.  For example, I have two bookshelves in my room filled with books that will probably never be read by either of my roommates, whereas the books in the Living Room and the Reading Nook are for public consumption.

Oh wow, that green I want that!

(Little unknown fact about me, I like collecting books mostly non-fiction about art but if I had the space and money, I would get every single book that intrigues me lol )
