A little trip down memory lane. This is a small fight sequence I story boarded between Su and Kuvira. It’s short but packs a punch. Love the backstory here between these two as it added a ton to the stakes of this battle. I must admit I do miss staging these fights. Joaquim Dos Santos has left a long trail of incredible and memorable action scenes in his wake, and it would be tough to say which one was his “best,” or even which one is my favorite. But if I had to try, this fight would easily be up there near the top of that list. The dynamics, timing, flow, and clarity of this sequence are all top-notch. It’s no mystery that when Mike and I got the opportunity to make Korra, the first person we turned to was Joaquim.
Here’s the new cover Joaquim Dos Santos @2-cents drew and I colored for the upcoming 2nd edition of The Legend of Korra: Art of the Animated Series: Book One from @darkhorsecomics . It was SO MUCH FUN to collaborate with my old buddy Joaquim again.
First I was a month early for the Avatar series finale’s 10th anniversary, and now I’m a day late. Andrew Whalen at Newsweek published an article last night about the making of the 4-part finale, featuring new interviews with directors Joaquim Dos Santos @jds_77 and Ethan Spaulding @ethanspauldingart3633 and series co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino @mike_dante_d and me. I interrupt the…well I’d love to say “regularly scheduled programming” of animal drawings but really it’s more like “sporadic” at best…to share some very exciting news! I’m so thrilled and honored to be a part of this year’s ECCC Voltron panel alongside some of the best people ever. Hope to see you all in Seattle for a glimpse of what’s coming up next for our Legendary Defenders and to show you guys a thing I made that’s on a poster!!! Hooray! ;0)))
