6 years ago I tried my hand at leather working for the first time. I had no experience on what I was doing. I decided to make a rose on my first attempt. The only tools I had were a hammer, bevel, and a scrap piece of leather. As you can see it came out ok but nowhere near what I would be satisfied with. It didnt have that pop or standout detail most tooled leather pieces had. So comparing my first piece to what I’m able to create now I can see a lot of improvements in my work. But since this is a side hobby I’m nowhere near a master craftsman. But maybe one day..

Throwback Thursday to a project I did that botched in the end. Was trying to make a butterfly wing clutch bag. The best way to learn is to do it and see the mistakes and find ways to improve upon them. The wings and card holder were fine but it was the stitching together where I goofed. I tried to make the zipper follow the curvature if the wings but in doing so it made it hard to zip and unzip due to some sharp curves, specially the middle area. Another part that needs redesigned would be the inside pouch area. Since the card holder area blocks most of the bottom making it hard to get change, keys or whatever else would be lose and down there. So plans are in motion to revamp the design and make it practical.

Got around to making the first of many of these fur pouch bags. Came out pretty decent and it’s super soft. If I had a giant sheet instead of small trim of this stuff I’d make a pillow! Perfect for any outfit one would wear at a renfaire or medieval type attire. Meant for coins but big enough to hold some other small items too, like keys, or ID cards. Should have these up in the shop soon!

I need to learn how to make these hats, not like exactly but just the base top hat style. I have the leather but not the know how. Have a few hats I would like to make in this style tho. The goggles would be a whole different story if I wanted to start making those.

Alchemist/Doctor medicine vial box is now complete! Took it for a test run outside, and by run, I mean wearing it casually walking around…not running around. Sadly I dont have a cool medieval attire to showcase with it. Passed with high expectations though! No mini vials popping out of the side hub, and nothing chaotic happened inside the bag. The bag stays close to the hip and doesnt weigh the belt down while walking around. The latch lock works well for the flap and it’s easy to open and close while being worn. The clasps on the O rings are removable and can be put at the ends of a long strap of it has a hole to hook them in and can be worn over the shoulder as well. Look for this to be listed soon!

Final design outcome of the belt attachment to vial box. I do need to get two clasps so they can hook onto the vial box. I have silver ones but for this I’ll need bronze ones. Overall I like how its come out. Will have full picture up in the near future.

An update on the project. Got the leather dyed and green suede liner attached to it. A few other things done. Still a few things to do. I’m sure most can already tell what its shaping up to be. I do need to make the straps still tho. After that it can all be stitched together.

Trial and error. Was working on tje new pouch design and I was wanting to make some tooling designs on the front. So I carved the design then beveled the lines, however as you can see the leather was too thin and it tore through. Will have to see how well tooling without carving will work on next attempt!
