Drawcember!!!!

It’s DRAWCEMBER, babes! HECKIN YEAH. That means 2020 is almost over and 2021 is nigh upon us. So unless 2021 ends up being the 2012 everyone feared and the Mayans were just dyslexic…(2021… 2012… 2021…) that’s something to celebrate!!!!

To offer 2020 a sacrifice and hope for a great 2021, I am participating in the Drawcember challenge by doing my own Girls Redrawing Girls challenge! Referencing series, games and films I have seen in 2020, I am drawing a lady and featuring a new one every day! I call it #GirlsRedrawingGirls

Today was Laputa: Castle in the Sky, featuring Sheeta! I watch this at least once a year, so of course I watched it in 2020! I hope you like it <3

I LOVED THIS MOVIE GROWING UP. I wasn’t a huge Mononoke fan from the get go, so it was Spirited Away that actually stole my heart and made me a Ghibli fangirl.

My absolute favorite part of this piece are the little soot sprites in the corner – and it worked out great that the figures in the original painting were barefooted, because I really wanted to include the part where Chihiro’s shoe was being ‘put away’ by the sprites. AHHH this painting was full of complex little details that took so much time to do.

Pierre Auguste Cot was an academic painter from France, and painted ‘The Storm’ in 1880.

I painted PewDiePie and his wifey MarziaPie <3 !

Referenced a photo from their instagrams for it. Was lots of fun. Procreate noob and all… was kind of frustrated with it at first, if I am honest.. but I think it kinda of worked out. I’m not even mad.

Based on a painting ‘The Storm’ by Pierre Auguste Cot painted in 1880! I had so much fun doing this, but it was so immensely difficult for me for a few reasons. However in the end I am very proud of the way it turned out.

I did change a few things, hopefully no one minds… but I don’t think anyone can spot them all hahaha.

My latest creation – Homer Simpson, ala Magritte!!! 

There are a number of easter eggs in this particular painting, many of which I owe inspiration to because my friends are such hard core fans of the series haha. This one was difficult in a number of ways, most notably was finding a way to make Homer fit similar dimensions to the original (shifty eyes).

Laputa: Castle in the Sky! I had a lot of fun with this one (and painting all the flowers!). I’ve long been a fan of this classic Ghibli film, and wanted to do something bright and airy! Here we have a gentle caretaker Robot with their scarf of summer florals and bird friends to keep them sociable. Also invited a fun little guest from Spirited Away :)

Close up of my current ‘work in progress’! Featuring that phase where I’m negotiating the style, and it’s halfway between the classical painting I’m doing an homage to, and halfway between the character I’m going for – and that character is Zelda, of course ^^

What do you guys think?! This is my spin on Caspar David Friedrich’s painting from 1818, ‘Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog’. The original painting’s subject is debated, but the Rückenfigur (figure from behind) is theorized to be a ranger or soldier – specifically Colonel Friedrich Gotthard von Brincken. I thought it very fitting that Cloud take his spot in the piece, as a reference to the ingame first class group, SOLDIER. I hinted to the color and shape of the logo with my METEOR in the sky – and we also get a nice look at the northern crater as Cloud stands above the fog. The ribbon is something I’ve always felt was special in the FFVII games – because my head canon liked to think the accessory RIBBON was also tied to Aerith’s hair ribbon (some of the best stats in the game). In Cloud’s sword we see the Buster sword with some materia, one of which is HOLY, and of course… a few references hidden on the craggy rocks he stands on, as well.

Digitally painting roses is harder than traditionally painting roses. If you don’t agree then you haven’t tried both ways, I’m sorry! I DEFEND THIS POINT TO MY GRAVE. xD

I did post a tutorial up on my YouTube for this baby, though. It’s time consuming, but if you want a rose that looks traditionally painted, but it’s done digitally… I gotchu. 

Also wtf is up with the new instagram algorithm?! I make a post about my dog and over 5000 people see my story, I make a post with a new piece of art and 1200 people see the story. This is just weird and ridiculous xD

Did a drawing of Eris from Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas! Who is old enough to remember this movie? I just realized that kids born in 2000 are old enough to drink now D:
