Frank Dicksee was a prominent EnglishVictorian painterandillustrator. The son of Thomas Francis Dicksee, a noted painter of Shakespearean characters, he is best known for his pictures of dramatic literary, historical, and legendary scenes. He also was a noted painter of portraits of fashionable women, which helped to bring him success in his own time.

His style was not fully within other popular modes of the time, such as Pre-RaphaelismorNeoclassicism, and can be seen as a fusion of various methods and aesthetics of his time, including later in life utilising post-Romantic techniques such as lighter brushwork and softer shades.

History paintings

Makovsky was an influential Russian painter, affiliated with the Peredvizhniki school of Realism. While some of his work reacts against the Academy, he found success in the Salon alongside other Academic painters, and his work can be seen as perhaps related to the French movement of Academic Naturalism. Many of his historical paintings showed an idealised, Romantic view of Russian life of prior centuries, with a particular focus on Boyar people and culture. He was also a popular and prolific portrait painter.

Thank you, Fruits Basket, for your beautiful story!!! It’s been such a pleasure seeing the remake done just as Takaya Sensei wanted it done. And I cried so so much, which I hardly ever do! I drew Kyoru’s wedding day for zoom & enhance reasons because that framed photo omggg My two favorite people ever Perfect traditional Japanese wedding ahh, you just know everyone was there!! Can we get the reception party scene pls pls Ayame most certainly went all out on Tohru’s wedding gown ✨✨✨ I’ll never forget how happy this story makes me!

Twelfth Revolution

I finally completed this Anthy/Utena/Touga interpretation of the brilliant and beautiful photo shoot of Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald, and Raúl Esparza in Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” I recently have been binging a bunch of Utena analysis on YouTube and damn now I need to rewatch the show!! These in depth explanations of the story make me appreciate Anthy Himemiya’s character SO MUCH MORE. The show literally revolves around her and she is absolutely more than she seems. Anthy has the most complicated personality out of the whole cast and I love that. Utena was a big part of my life in high school! I watched it constantly, tried to cut my hair like Utena, started wearing b&w two toned shoes, and ordered a rose signet ring online lol! It feels pretty great to come around full circle to draw more Utena again. I hope you like this piece! Pre-orders are up for prints!! Take my revolution

The full image of my ‘Spirited Away’ homage to Cot! If you want to see the comparison to the original, hit my Tumblr profile and find it there.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE GROWING UP. I wasn’t a huge Mononoke fan from the get go, so it was Spirited Away that actually stole my heart and made me a Ghibli fangirl.

My absolute favorite part of this piece are the little soot sprites in the corner – and it worked out great that the figures in the original painting were barefooted, because I really wanted to include the part where Chihiro’s shoe was being ‘put away’ by the sprites. AHHH this painting was full of complex little details that took so much time to do.

Pierre Auguste Cot was an academic painter from France, and painted ‘The Storm’ in 1880.
