The Magnificent Lovers

Beautiful vintage photos of Romy Schneider and Alain Delon in the late 1950s and early 1960s

Southern Comfort(2001)

A beautiful scene featuring transgender man Robert Eades and his transgender girlfriend Lola.

[TRANSCRIPT:

Robert: – and now she’s coming out, full blown… she is something else.

Lola: Oh, please, stop it.

Robert: What? I’m just telling her how wonderful you are, and how beautiful, and how organised, and…

Lola: Actually, you know, I really should put all of this on tape, you know? For when I’m not feeling so great.

Robert: Sweetheart, it is on tape.

[BOTH LAUGH]

Robert: Just in the last couple of months now, it’s come on real strong, but she just really blushes! I can get her to blush all the way from head to toe. See? And she can’t deal with it! She’s never blushed like that before!

Lola: [SIGHS]

[BOTH LAUGH]

Robert: All my life, I’ve been looking for the perfect woman… and all this time, she’s been right there in front of me, and I didn’t even realise it, ‘cause I never thought I’d have a chance with her.

Lola: Why? You’re like… completely loveable.

Robert: To be loved by you, that’s… that’s…

Lola: I had no notion, to think that we would have this little fling.

Robert: That’s what I feel - we have this nice friendship, we can’t go out, we have fun together, we got no entanglements and stuff and then - bam! Just… all of a sudden, next thing I know, we’re in love with each other and we can’t stop it.

I tried to sneak up behind him… I wanted to scare him… Until he tilted his head back, as if he knew I was there and expecting something from me.

When I looked at him with his head tilted back and looking at me. All I could think about was how cute and adorable he looking. So I leaned down and kissed him, a long, passionate, warm kiss.

A little Wales with my boyfriend. ❤️ I can’t wait for the moment I will live in the United Kingdom.

Anyone who knows me knows that my love lives in London. I got this beautiful bouquet of tulips today. Last time when he was in Budapest with me, I told him that I really likes spring, especially snowdrops and tulips. ❤️ So beautiful.

We’re right in the middle of the summer wedding season (although Zoom weddings are currently the norm), so this Friday our staff wanted to highlight some of the wedding photos in our archives! We have a surprising number of photographs in our collection taken by Washington University staff documenting the nuptials of their family, friends, and coworkers in foreign countries.

From top to bottom:

This photo shows nursing officer Meredith Harback of the 21st General Hospital (stationed in Algeria during World War II) holding a bouquet of wedding flowers.  Harback was a friend of the bride, Lieutenant Marjorie Lovell, who married Lieutenant D.C. McBride in 1944 while serving overseas.

This photo featuring a 1963 wedding party in Uganda was taken by Dr. Mildred Trotter, a WU anatomy professor and world-renowned physical anthropologist.

E.V. Cowdry, Washington University’s head of anatomy, is the tall gentleman standing in the back of this photo.  Standing to his left is his wife Alice.  The Cowdrys attended this flower-filled wedding ceremony in India in 1952.
