LIVE

Our eyes red and throats sore
The burning burns everywhere
But I lean back with my wine
While my man leans over the engine
Both oiling the wear
There was a time when every day
I was prettier than the day before
But I’d been painting a worn down house
And now I’ve stripped the boards
For a rawer look
And I’ll never be pretty again
With all this wine
Cooked into my lips
But I can smile
Purple teeth bared
And see what I’d always loved
Dirt and fangs and laissez-faire

I’m writing a poem every day this December. I hope you enjoy some of them. I wrote this one listening to “Real Friends” by Camila Cabello. And if you’d like to subscribe to the newsletter, click here.
