Honestly I don’t care what people headcanon Mccree as: trans, cis, straight, bi, gay, pan etc or what ship he’s in. As long as he’s happy and smiling because good lord has he been through some shit.
Jesse couldn’t help but twitch his leg underneath the table. He has never really been fond of the idea of dating. Such a thing was foreign to him, especially for a cowboy gunslinger who’s sole purpose is to shoot, smoke cigars, and lolly-gag, and toyingly have a snake in their boot.
Yet, this date comes with the biggest prize he ever desired: love. Angela has been in his view for more than five years now. The amount of care she’ for teammates and her funny motherly demeanor towards them got him hooked for her from the start. She was something he had to have in her life, and he felt like this is the only chance he’ll ever get it.
Hell, it’s really the only chance. The poor medic was always dealing with work, filling up her schedule with agonizing-to-fulfill tasks and forever piling up stress.
Thankfully Morrison gave her a break and McCree was able to hook up with to a date at a small Italian diner. Although, she called him and said she would be late because of unpredictable traffic.
And so he waited patiently at an empty table while people had lively conversations. Speaking of conversations, Jesse’s mind brainstormed of all the things he could possibly say to Angie when she first walked through the door. ‘Everythin will be alright. Hopefully,’ the cowboy thought as he stared deep into his wine glass. But suddenly the doorbell jingled, causing him to jump and look at the door.
Thank God, it was just Genji. Jesse placed a hand on his heart and smiled to himself. “Nearly scared me half to death.” He said as the waiter led the cyborg to his table.
“Heh, I didn’t even need to sneak up on you to scare you. You’re THAT nervous?” Genji chuckled as he took a seat. He unflipped his hoody off of his head.
“Hell yeah, this is my first time ever datin. And…Angie is the one. I can’t screw this up.” Jesse picked up his wine glass and sipped, trying to suppress his urge to smoke a cigar. He could of simply just walk out the building and smoke, yet he didn’t want Angela to spot him. He knew how much the medic hated the use of tobacco.
“Glad I’m here to help,” Genji said as he curiously looked through the menu.
McCree knew he wouldn’t be able to do it all by himself. No, he would go insane with so much nervousness, he had to have some sort of guidance along the way. And so he asked Genji to be his wingman. He could always count on his best bud, through and through.
The door jingled again. This time it was the real deal. Jesse saw the medic standing in the middle of the doorway. Her dress was a steaming royal blue and a little revealing in some areas. She wore purple eyeshadow and mascara to really bring out her facial features. Her head scanned the room, her flowing blonde hair following its every move. Her eyes then finally spotted Jesse and they lit up as she flashed him the sweetest welcoming smile he ever saw.
The poor cowboy felt like he was going to die any minute because of how abnormally fast his heart was beating. 'Oh lord, Jesus take the wheel,’ McCree thought.
Angela sauntered over to them, her heels clicking against the tiled floors. “Good evening, you two.” She grinned as she took a seat by Genji. “Wasn’t expecting you to be here, Genji.”
“I’m all over the place, am I?” The ninja chuckled.
She punched him in the arm playfully. “Oh, you! I could never give you healing when you are!”
Jesse didn’t know what to really say. His nervousness was keeping a zipper along his mouth. He desperately looked at Genji to help.
Genji gave a quick glance at him and noticed his quiet plea. “McCree wanted to know how your day has been.”
She turned to the cowboy. “It has been awful, really. I have been lacking some companionship over the few days.”
“Luckily ya have us, right? Birds that flock together, stay together.” Jesse chuckled shyly.
“Certainly. We have been friends for what seems like centuries,” Angela said.
“I’ve been rusted away by that point.” Genji pointed out.
“Unlikely! I’ll make sure to give you spare parts along the way.” She giggled.
The sun was dipping below the earth, casting a colorful glow onto the building. The three chattered for what seems like forever, even though Angela and Genji were the ones going at it. Yeah, Jesse had some one-liners now and then with Genji’s assistance, yet the cyborg began to talk to Angela more and more. The more he did so the less he focused on McCree.
Jesse didn’t know what else to do really. The two just kept rambling on and on without him giving a chance to say anything. He really felt shouldn’t say anything. Why does he need to try anymore? The cowboy saw how their eyes lit up for each other, how much they playfully laughed at each other’s jokes, how Angie’s cheeks were a tinted pink. He knew what was going on…
And so he painfully ate his dinner, trying not to gaze at them since that would only cause more heartache. He ran his finger along the rim of his wine glass as he waited for this torcher to be over, something.
Luckily, he got his wish when Genji suggested Angela if she wanted to go see a movie with him that night.
“Of course, Genji. I would love to see 'Love, Simon’ with you. I heard it was a very sweet and heartwarming one,” Angela said as she got up from her seat.
The cyborg held her hand and led her out of the restaurant. Jesse watched as the two walked out. Not only did he watched them walk, but his chance of love throwing itself out the window as well. They left without even saying “bye” or “would like you like to come as well?”, just a ghastly silence. They were perhaps so wrapped up in their love that they have forgotten all about the cowboy.
At least that taught the gunslinger well in what to expect. He certainly didn’t need love in his life. All he needed to be one thing and one thing only: a whiskey and cigar obsessed cowboy. People like him never deserved a chance at love, nor do they get it in the first place. It was all just a lost cause…
The cowboy gazed at the reflection in his wine and grinned pitifully to himself. “I should of just stick to my guns…”
