LIVE

In all pasts and presents and futures and other lives: Sherlock loves John, even when John does not love him back.

Oh wow. Some fanfics are more like gorgeous pieces of tangibly visible artwork than simple writings. This would be one such pieces of work. But don’t be fooled by its immense beauty. It’s a tragic piece. The best way I can describe it is if you take a shard of glass, jam it into your chest, and just make a rough incision across your sternum. Because that’s what I feel like at this moment. Sherlock comes back to find John doesn’t remember him, but this is not like other fics with amnesia. I’ll say no more on that and instead move on to the writing itself, because that is what makes this fic utterly unique. It’s written from Sherlock’s perspective, giving a look into his mind as he comes to terms with what has happened. It makes the reader see everything through his eyes and feel right alongside him and it hurts. There are vivid descriptions of his inner thoughts, ones that only Sherlock would have and wouldn’t be terrifying, because it’s Sherlock. His emotions are as raw and as jagged as the wound left into your chest. Definitely one for super angst lovers and fans of jellyfish. A special thanks to Rachel for the suggestion. A warning of brief sexual content and mentions of gore.

Sherlock spends exactly nineteen seconds zoned out after John asks him to be best man. He retreats to his mind palace in the desperate hope of figuring out what he wants, unfortunately for him his mind palace is full of people who keep trying to give him advice.

I haven’t read fanfic in a very long time (as our lack of updates suggests) but a link to this was on my dash and I thought ‘what the hell’, expecting to close out of it right away (no offense, that’s just my relationship with fanfic these days) and it’s honestly really good. Like because of this I might actually start to read fic again, I know I’ll check out this author’s other works. The characterization, pacing, and expressions are spot on. It’s engaging and humorous, but pulls on your heart strings as well. This story exists only in Sherlock’s mind palace, and it’s amazing how the different elements from the show and the author combined. This is exactly how I want Sherlock’s mind palace to be, especially with the memories. Honestly well done, this is a great fic for people who love unrequited love fics and pining Sherlock!

Things Hoped For And Things Unseen

This was my contribution to @lovecrimebooks‘ Ravage Anthology, as part of the Lust Circle. I was so very delighted for the opportunity to be part of the project and I hope you all will enjoy reading this weird little fic!

Will’s eyes are closed. Beneath, there is movement, flickers and jerks that cause his lashes to flutter, moth-like against his infraorbital margins. Hannibal imagines running his finger along them, imagines their delicate lines folding back like the sensitive leaves of a mimosa pudica as Will opens up to meet his gaze.

Touching, though, is not permitted in this game of theirs.

It would not do to get distracted, in any case. Having swallowed his mouthful, Will’s thoughts must now be carefully directed further along the path Hannibal is so devotedly tending for him. He is so close, now, and yet still he drags his feet, liable at any moment to change direction and snatch himself from Hannibal’s grasp.

Outside, the storm is blowing itself out. Will could leave at any moment, unimpeded by inclemency. Hannibal must hold his attention.

“After my first ortolan, I was euphoric,” he begins, a reminder that Will has no need to fear rejection or failure of understanding, here. “A stimulating reminder of our power over life and death.”

Will’s eyes are downcast, and for a moment Hannibal wonders if he will dissemble, turn the conversation to theory and philosophy, to the distant and impersonal, where he thinks he will be safe.

“I was euphoric when I killed Freddie Lounds.”

But, of course, Will shows his mettle, wielding bluntness like he would a bullet. If he must deal with this, he will cut through Hannibal’s subtleties and lay himself bare between them. Perhaps, even, he is too proud of his first independent kill to speak of it in veiled terms. The thought burns a streak of joy through to Hannibal’s core.

“Tell me,” he says, delight concealed beneath measured interest, “did your heart race when you murdered her?”

Will takes his time to answer, considering before speaking the words in a molasses drawl that slides (flows, oozes) tantalisingly from him. “No, it didn’t.”

Oh, how Hannibal hopes that is true.

How To Remember Things Long Term Using Mind Palace Technique

If you’re a Sherlock fan, you already know about this, but if not, let me introduce you to something that will probably change your life

Mind Palace as termed in BBC’s series Sherlock is a memory technique called ‘Method Of Loci’

It’s very easy to get hang of, but you need to invest some time at the beginning

Here are the steps that I used to create a mind palace to remember all the things I’m required to in med school:

1)Imagine a small place/room

To begin, you need a small space until you get the hang of it. You can start with your own room or house or any place you know like the back of your hand

Example: your fridge, to begin with

2)Think of all the things that are placed in the room and commit them to your memory

Let me continue with the example: think of where everything is kept in your fridge.

Think of where the eggs are kept, the milk, the vegetables, etc.

3)Make a little list of something that you need to remember

3)Make a little list of something that you need to remember

People on YouTube would suggest to remember something like your grocery list (which will do) or the numbers of pi (which, while impressive, is unnecessary, I think)

I would suggest to not waste energy on something that doesn’t apply to your life/studies.

Example: elements of the periodic table

4)Associate the list with the items in your mind palace

It doesn’t always have to make perfect sense, you just need to relate to it while remembering later

Example: in my fridge, the eggs are kept separately at the top, just like Hydrogen in the periodic table

Next is Lithium, second row where we keep milk and so on.

5)For the first time, write down what you’re associating everything with, a diagram on a plain paper works the best

So like, draw your fridge, make shapes that resemble the things in there and label them with the things that you are associating it with currently

6)Practice by Exploring Your Mind Palace

Like I said, it will need some time when you’re doing it for the first time, but then, a practice for 15 minutes a day by venturing into your mind palace is enough

7)Make Your Mind Palace Bigger!

After you get the hang of it, just start renovating your mind palace bit by bit!

You don’t need to keep just one mind palace, you can have as many as you want! Create one for remembering things about your family, another for school, another for birthdays of your friends, the list is endless

Hope this helps! If it did or you have any questions, feel free to send me a direct message or an ask, I’ll be happy to talk to you about this and help you create your own mind palace Xx
