In all pasts and presents and futures and other lives: Sherlock loves John, even when John does not love him back.

Oh wow. Some fanfics are more like gorgeous pieces of tangibly visible artwork than simple writings. This would be one such pieces of work. But don’t be fooled by its immense beauty. It’s a tragic piece. The best way I can describe it is if you take a shard of glass, jam it into your chest, and just make a rough incision across your sternum. Because that’s what I feel like at this moment. Sherlock comes back to find John doesn’t remember him, but this is not like other fics with amnesia. I’ll say no more on that and instead move on to the writing itself, because that is what makes this fic utterly unique. It’s written from Sherlock’s perspective, giving a look into his mind as he comes to terms with what has happened. It makes the reader see everything through his eyes and feel right alongside him and it hurts. There are vivid descriptions of his inner thoughts, ones that only Sherlock would have and wouldn’t be terrifying, because it’s Sherlock. His emotions are as raw and as jagged as the wound left into your chest. Definitely one for super angst lovers and fans of jellyfish. A special thanks to Rachel for the suggestion. A warning of brief sexual content and mentions of gore.

Sherlock Masturbates the night before John’s wedding.

Now don’t get too excited, this may be about masturbation but you’re not going to feel much like masturbating after this one! This was good, I truly felt the shame and regret rolling off Sherlock here. It made sense that Sherlock would have a background where he felt sex and masturbation was a dirty, shameful thing. I think it fits in well with the shows characterization but doesn’t get tropey. I love love love the addition of Irene and Mary in this (no spoilers) which is a very rare thing to find in a Johnlock fic but fits Sherlock so well. Obviously this work is explicit, however I wouldn’t describe it as raunchy. If very intense sexual themes aren’t for you, you may still like this one. This isn’t a happy story, it’s pretty sad and lonely to be honest, but if you have a weak spot for pining Sherlock you’ll hate to love it.

Sherlock and John met seven years earlier than canon and fell in love. When John dies, Sherlock is introduced to the concept of alternate dimensions and given the opportunity to visit a different universe where he can have a second chance with a new John Watson. A love story across alternate dimensions.

Alternate dimensions! Always a fun AU, and this is no exception. I think this was a very well written story with interesting characterization but to be up front it ended up not exactly being my personal cup of tea. I want to put that out there before I get too far because I think the author wrote exactly the story they wanted to tell and many many many people will love it even though I’m not the biggest fan.

One of the best things about this fic is characterization. I thought it was amazing, the way the different universes shaped the characters bring on subtle changes and shows you a Sherlock that never pretended he didn’t have a heart. It was great and anytime I thought something might be OOC it was justified within the narrative. I particularly loved the characterization after the season 3 timeline. It fit so well with the show’s canon while having excellent backstory to what was really going on! That was great. The story is interesting too, a lot of planning went into it and it paid off big time. There’s no clumsy reveals, all the big twists and turns were always a part of the story. However for me, the story got a little too fanciful particularly when we get to Mary’s story line. It wasn’t for me. I want to stress that this is personal opinion though, it’s nothing wrong with the writing. Constructive criticism wise though, I think the very end tail of the story wasn’t as nicely paced as the rest. A bit awkward and rushed, so much happened in such a short time I didn’t have much time to adjust to the major game changers happening. Overall all though I’m impressed with the amount of planning that went into this story and I think it was a very good fic that a ton of you will love.

“When Sherlock or John shoot/hurt someone they go “aww cute” but when Mary or Molly do what the guys did they go “evil woman!!”

  • Hi there anon, could you please provide one single receipt of us saying Sherlock and John hitting/shooting people is “cute?” While we’re waiting on that, you can entertain yourself with thesereceiptsofyourfandom cheering on unwarranted violence from Molly and Mary.

“Taken at is most basic interpretation, Mary is a threat to their ship”

  • Lol as if you don’t hate John for that exactreason.

“Understanding [why Mary shot Sherlock] is NOT condoning”

  • Where is that energy when it comes to John beating Sherlock in the morgue? That was just as unnecessary and pointless as Mary shooting Sherlock, but you rush to defend, excuse, and forgive one and not the other.

“She is clearly on a redemption arc that would be embraced were it, say, John who shot Sherlock. Can you imagine how they’d rush to defend his actions if the story had gone that way?”

  • Well, John did beat Sherlock up… and I don’t see Johnlockers rushing to defend him for that, so I fail to see how we’d defend him for doing something far more severe, such as shooting him.
  • But if John hadshot Sherlock, would you be as forgiving towards him as you were for Mary? I think the fuck not.

“There is a definite double standard when it comes to male vs female characters”

  • Sorry, but where are these double standards? We hated it when Molly slapped Sherlock, when Mary shot him, AND when John beat him up.
  • And yes, we know Sherlock, John, and Mary all shot and killed people. But Mary shoots good guys to save herself and they shoot bad guys to save other people. Don’t ignore that fact and then act like we’re sexist when we say one is more excusable than the other.
  • Go reread every single one of the above points if you want to see real double standards between male and female characters. Violence and murder are not okay just because it’s coming from a woman. This shouldn’t even have to be said.

“I don’t see [the double standards] changing even if the show ends with an R-rated scene of John and Mary making love in their flat”

  • I love how every time people try to diss Johnlockers, it always somehow ties back to sex, even though we’re the ones supposedly obsessed with our faves fucking
  • I also love the implication these “double standards” would be challenged the most if we saw Mary having straight sex, as opposed to, oh idk, her just being a better person. It’s not “Even if Mary became a literal saint, they’d still hate her!” It’s “Even if Mary fucked a man, they’d still call her evil!” As if having sex with a man automatically makes a woman morally irreproachable and more likable and erases all her past wrongdoings.
  • The fact that you even made this comparison shows that this has nothing to do with respecting or uplifting women - it’s just to do with with shipping.

Someone is salty methinks.

AA herself comes out and says it doesn’t make any sense for Mary to have shot Sherlock, but they still try to justify the (lack of) reasoning behind it.

She says killed. Not shot. Not wounded. Killed. Yet Miz still wants to ignore Sherlock’s heart stopping on the monitor, Mary chasing after him when he escapes the hospital, and Sherlock having to talk her down from shooting him a second time.

To each their own, but I never want to hear their arguments of “BuT mOfTiSs SaID!! BuT BeN sAiD!! bUt MaRtIn SaId!!!” if they can’t handle it when one of their own faves destroys one of their most firmly held opinions.

Story Title: No More Regrets
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Link(s):AO3
Summary: Molly Hooper prefers a life limited to her teaching at King’s College, the occasional consult for Scotland Yard and evenings with her cat and a good book, but her best mates think she should expand her horizons. On one of their regular “Let’s get Molly a social life” nights, Molly meets a man who saves her from a sticky situation, but before she can get to know this Sherlock fellow any better she has to leave the pub. She thinks it’s a fleeting “what might have been” moment, but Sherlock has other ideas about that.
Warnings: Mild non-graphic violence
Characters: Molly Hooper, Sherlock Holmes, Mary Morstan, Sally Donovan, John Watson, Greg Lestrade, Irene Adler, James Moriarty, Stella Hopkins & OMCs
Pairings: Sherlock Holmes/Molly Hooper, John Watson/Mary Morstan, Greg Lestrade/Sally Donovan
When I Started: May 19th, 2015
How I Lost My Shit: I actually had this plotted out once I hit chapter 19, and it seemed as though no matter what I did I couldn’t bring myself to write chapter 22. So that began the long hiatus for this fic.
How I Finished My Shit: Panic & pride. I have had the hell of a last few months (seriously, I think I’m cursed) and the closer the deadline got for the five days I had claimed where I had no new fics to show for it, I decided screw everything else, I was going to write and try and finish as many as I could. This was the first one I was able to finish, and it got a pretty good reception, so I was glad it ended up making people happy.

Chapter 2, part 3, in which I try out a new banner, and Ms. Morstan spills the beans about why she has come to Baker Street asking for help.
