#mitchells vs the machines
Mitchell’s vs. the Machines really blew my mind and if you haven’t watched it please do it’s so worth it!
More little background items for The Mitchells vs. The Machines. Some ideas for things laying around Katie’s room. This was my first assignment on my first day—started off easy on some cups and books to clue me in on the style. Our production designer, Lindsey Olivares, pushed me to go looser and less polished to give the 3D artists room to interpret. A note that I still think about today. Lots of references here.

Any time I think of Barbara protecting Jim the image that comes to mind is Mrs. Mitchell’s feral rampage in Mitchells vs. the Machines.
I spent a about an hour this weekend rummaging through my hard drive to find all the props I did for The Mitchell’s vs The Machine… and I Found a Lot! Here is the first batch. Most of these are from an early camp site set that I designed which got fully built out in 3d as our first test environment but never made it into the film due to story changes. This was like, within my first 2 or 3 months on the movie. The last image is the fully 3 version of the cut campsite set. More props to come
unsurprisingly Kellan’s work brings me so much joy
Finally saw Mitchells vs the Machines so:
ThisCLIP-based method does better I think in part because it can only pick from among the tags I give it.
Visual chatbot, never change.

Another Prop dump from the Mitchell’s vs the Machines , this time for the cabin set I designed. At one point this set was a little more prominently featured in the film so I built out more props for it then ended up being necessary. Rick Mitchell built this cabin himself and used to be a chainsaw art artist, hence all the north woods aesthetic animals. I think I’m most happy with that steel guitar which belongs to Linda. The Door design is a reference to the door that was on my old house back in Dallas.
