What is the point of politics if not social improvement? Does PragerU somehow think we can use politics to make individuals better without actually changing society in the process? PragerU wants their own vision of “societal improvement” too, they just don’t want to admit it.

apparently the queens jubilee is worth £823 million. its just a wild guess but im sure if you divided that to every low income household then the cost of living crisis would be solved. but no apparently the Queen who was born into her position and stayed that way for 96 years is more important than people being able to afford food everyday, for children to have a decent education and for vulnerable elderly people to have heating in the winter

However,wage theft in the UK amounts to £35 billion a year, and the military budget has risen to over £50 billion a year, making the UK the world’s third-largest military spender despite having less than 1% of the world’s population. That’s enough to give the poorest 22% £5,748 each every year, or enough to give a family of four living in poverty an extra £23,000 a year.
Although the royal family is indeed wasteful and extravagant and should not be allowed to have the money they do, there are much larger wastes of money in the UK.
I have a weird little question for the queer aspec side of tumblr: why is the ace color purple and the aro color green, but the aroace colors blue and yellow-orange? Why isn’t the aroace flag a purple and green flag?
I agree, I dislike the orange-blue one bc don’t like the inconsistent color symbolism. I made an aroace flag around the same time that one was made that does have purple & green. Purple = ace, green = aro, blue = intersection green & purple to recognize aroace as singular identity, then white-grey spectrum.

hey so uh, does anyone have advice for figuring out if a therapist is accepting of asexuality + aromanticism? basically I need a tactful way to ask “hey do u know about my identity and are u gonna try to ‘fix’ me or are u actually gonna help?”

hello friends! I first joined the tumbl in 2010 because this was where the asexual community lived. it has since been deliberately and systematically destroyed by the Discourse, but that’s a rant for another time. the point is, I miss having that community — I’m 30 now, and feeling the lack of it in a way I haven’t since I first found the word in college.
I’m wondering if anyone knows where I can find my fellow asexuals these days? are there forums still? is aven still even a thing? are we hanging out on discord? what blogs should I be following? are there ace writing groups? because I would fuckin love me an asexual writing group, be it fan or original fiction. literally where my people at?

There are still blogs like mine that weathered the hate and i know of a few discord communities but nothing as wide spread as I recall back in 2010.
I think this means what we need to do is go around and drag everyone who was around in 2011 out of retirement and get them back here for one last heist.
1) AVEN is still a thing but plenty of people use other spaces/it’s not as much of a monolith as it probably used to be. There’s other groups now like TAAAP(this specifically links to their page with other ace & aro groups/resources)
2) there’s definitely stuff on discord but I don’t particularly have recommendations. https://disboard.org is a website where you can generally search for discord servers by topic (like “Asexual”) but it can be a bit hit or miss.
3) you might want to check out carnival of aces for writing stuff, there’s monthly prompts people write for. Also there’s generally zines that pop up every now and then.
4) in terms of public social media spaces, tumblr is probably the best at this point, Twitter is like 5 years behind us and more discourse-y. I don’t have specific blog recs but if you search “Asexual” (or “actually asexual” to help avoid off topic stuff) you can probably find blogs you’d like. (Also filtering by recent is generally good when you want blogs that are actually active)
5) there’s definitely ace & aro fandom specific servers for some fandoms if you’re into fanfiction stuff, though they may not be particularly active or easy to find.
Also you only mentioned asexual so I’ve only listed asexual or general a-spec stuff that I’m aware of; if you also have interest in aromantic stuff, I can suggest more resources (I interact more with the aro community than the ace one).

Years ago I found a huge grub in a friends garden. Took it home in a jar speared with a fork for breathing holes. Put it in a bowl of dirt - Moth larvae will bury underground to metamorphosize - I carefully dug into the dirt when the leaves were falling. A beautiful umber leathery cocoon sat, quietly greeting me. All winter I kept it inside, warm. Carefully moved from one room to another. Come spring, I thought they would not come out. Come summer, I was left with a casing I thought empty. One night, one breathtaking night, a moth larger than my partner’s hand, or mine appeared. The Pandora Sphinx Moth was free, and she spread her wings and took to the night sky. I never knew a moth like her could exist in Colorado.
At any given moment, it’s estimated there are 10 quintillion individual insects alive. Be curious! Who knows what we will discover next. There in your backyard, local park, leaflitter in the city, some new, wonderous thing lives.
heres the first ever picture of an as-of yet undescribed leaf miner moth! featuring my dog! i just took him out for his walk one day and saw something on a leaf, i didnt even know it was evidence of a bug, i thought it might be a fungus or something. i posted it to inaturalist and after identifying the host tree, a leafminer expert informed me that that tree was not a known host of anything this might be, and it was almost certainly an undescribed species of moth.
i eventually collected some more leaves that still had larvae/pupae living inside to mail to him so he could raise them to adulthood and work on classifying them
look at that!! a whole new moth!!

this is an insect in the genus pachymorpha, but otherwise undescribed!! i was excited to see it so i thought i would share!!
Bugs are CONSTANTLY being discovered. One of my favorite examples of this is the surge of amblypygid discoveries in 2018.
