I’m literally just going to paste everything that I told you on our chat. And I give myself authority to plagiarize…myself!
The ‘deep analysis’ of YN came through here. It’s unearthing that trauma again and that came across to me. The last few updates were somewhat removed from all this (in a good way). She was healing. She and Namjoon were healing–and then BAM , she’s back in that hole again
And as somebody who has read the series from the beginning–it ties into the narrative. This is the part when “the bad guys” start throwing desperate moves.
It’s deep and triggering but as I *try* to be an objective reader–you have to understand YN’s history. Based on your characterization of her in this AU, she has many deep insecurities, unresolved trauma… she is averse to therapy… that all factors in. And then now, it’s all bubbled up to the surface and there’s only so much stonewalling that she can do.
The way I see it, this series is built on Namjoon’s mistake and how YN reacts to it–which in turn, makes her come to terms with other insecurities and traumas she’s had. She’s been able to successfully evade them before because of that lawsuit with her dad and Kwang…. but not with Namjoon because he’s literally right there. No matter how much she tries to escape him–she couldn’t get away from him. Not like her past issues. She can’t bury him.
Her relationship with Namjoon is different from her biological family’s and everybody else. He’s…for lack of a better term–ingrained in her being. All other people, she can cut off. Not him—which makes this ordeal more difficult for her.
Bottom line is, OC has been used to escaping or hiding from her problems all her life. Putting on a mask, brave face, armor, what have you… and when Namjoon cheated, it forced her hand in a way. It’s like, for the longest time, she avoided mirrors–and now, here’s her husband along with six other mirrors following her around. There’s no escape!
I also love how it finishes with Hobi giving him words of encouragement because prior to this, their relationship was kind of iffy (that’s how I felt, at least). It reminds me of a scene in one of my favorite shows (Insecure) where the leads had a temporary fallout and even though they had a talk and all that, it still felt “weird” in a way. And they said something like, “Yeah, we’re back…but we’re not back-back. That will take a while.” This applies to Joon and Hobi, too.

My aim was to push yn so far that she had no choice but to settle into the mode again, but what better personal growth than to realize you’re settling back into old habits and make a conscious choice to change that in some way.
In every single sense of your wording above, Nerve is exactly as you’re describing it.
Some of us are lucky, we can get away with unresolved trauma, parents, siblings, friends, crises, but sometimes they come back to bite you and unfortunately y/n is one of those unlucky ones.
And somehow, this made them stronger. Yn and joon I mean. This whole thing brought things to the surface that they didn’t even know was an issue before.
And like you say, Namjoon is INGRAINED in her, calling him the love of her life is an understatement. These two dark deep and deep diving individuals have transcended the so called idea of 'love’, I genuinely have no word for them and what they feel for each other.
