Underrated 80’s Alternative Bands You Need to Listen To:
bc the 80s weren’t all just discos and legwarmers right?
The Replacements ~ a true underground band that’s wayyyy too underrated. just check them out
Minutemen~ that kind of effortless singing and basic riffs that just make really good, politically motivated music (lol)
The Feelies ~ nerdy, catchy stuff. for a reference, if weezer was a little older and was more punk
Mission of Burma ~ punk/alternative stuff, weird (but good) time shifts and piercing chords that aren’t basic or repetitive
The Cramps ~ super creepy but catchy music, it’s really unique garage-rock stuff
Gang of Four ~ part of the early punk movement, lots of political tunes with strong guitar/drum solos
The Dream Syndicate ☁️~ rock/alternative with a little bit of 80s pop elements included. super good guitar riffs and unique vocals
Meat Puppets ~ this is a mean emoji. but this band encompasses all aspects of rock and punk which makes really catchy and head banger music
Alternative Bands You Need To Listen To: Part 5
Skegss⚡️ (makes you feel like you’re skateboarding down a boardwalk in the middle of an australian summer)
Vundabar (one of my all time favorite bands… they make a unique kind of alternative music with catchy melodies and gritty lyrics/sounds that are truly brilliant)
Goodbye Honolulu (really good garage rock stuff and an overall awesome sound. chord progressions are also a1)
Made Violent (also restores my faith in alternative and punk)
Courtney Barnett (if you don’t know this songwriting wizard by now… relatable music, awesome guitar playing and band, just overall beautiful songs)
Gallus (my favorite modern alternative band for the past 2 yrs now… super underrated shit, real rock songs that are clean and so advanced. definitely check them out)
Otherkin (imagine a movie intro of someone walking through high school in the early 2000s, with a little more punk)
Cosmic Flanders (only have 2 songs rn but I know they’ll be big, has a retro-rock and modern day psych-rock feel)
Violent Soho (reminds me so much of classic 90s bands, ultimate new headbanger music with plenty of more mellow bops too)
The Delta Riggs ⚫️ (the BEST funky alternative)
The Dose (90’s vibe… it’s good stuff)
The Growlers☀️ (y’all should know them but if you don’t… mix of indie/rock/alt/with some pop stuff, overall the band is super dynamic with a great lead singer and amazing riffs/beats)
Skinny Girl Diet (female nirvana. that’s it. fucking awesome)
Hot Flash Heat Wave (mix of post-punk and psychedelic pop stuff, super catchy tunes that you’ll love)
Alternative Bands You Need To Listen To Part 4:
Pale Waves (takes me back to the good ole early 2000s punk era, super cute band and really catchy songs)
Wolf Alice (even though you SHOULD have heard their stuff by now, if you haven’t please do. my absolute favorite band who are underrated af with a mix of hard punk, alternative, rock, and slow songs)
DMA’s✖️(one of the greatest bands I’ve ever heard, big Oasis vibes, highly recommend)
The Struts (retro rock, super catchy)
Dante Elephante (<i love this emoji lol but this band is a few yrs old with bops that nobody knows about, indie-alternative stuff with good riffs and melodies)
Bloodboy (good punk/pop, not some emo screamy shit, amazing voice and cool songs)
SWMRS☀️(right in between the indie and punk genre - anyways it’s catchy and super good music)
Shame (an awesome band with songs that have a classic-rock sound to them with modern influences, some of my favorite new songs)
The Buttertones (think of The Cramps with a saxophone, really really unique alternative music that is really worth a listen)
Gang of Youths▪️(more indie-alternative but really catchy songs that are actually deep and not about cigarettes and sex and british shit)
Otherkin (garage-punk songs, basic riffs and melodies that are composed so well together, reminds me of early alternative/punk stuff)
Gallus (they only have one song and ik they’re gonna be huge, so please give a listen)
Mt. Eddy (their album is one of my favorites, reminiscent of early Strokes stuff, alternative/indie sounds with strong guitar and drums)
Alex Lahey ⚡️ ~ indie pop songs that will immediately make you fall in love
Catfish and the Bottlemen (just in case you haven’t listened to these fools, please do and thank you. indie-alternative godly music that will make you an expert in british slang {“lippy” is chapstick HA} while restoring your faith in decent music)
