rewatching the eda and raine dream scene in knockin’ on hooty’s door, the lines that make me burst into flames the most are raine’s “is this the curse?” and eda’s “just show them! let them help!” bc now knowing for sure that raine and eda were close even before the curse re-contextualizes it all. like does that mean raine hadn’t ever seen the owl beast despite literally being there in eda’s life the entire time?? like how hard did eda have work to stifle the curse just to stop them from seeing her in that state?? how many times did she run away just so that they wouldn’t see her in that much pain??
When you think about it, she’d lived with King and Hooty for so long, and yet she didn’t tell them until King stole the elixir and more or less forced her to tell them. They’re only lucky that the damage done to Hooty was mostly played off as comedic relief and didn’t become a matter of crippling like with Dell
Raine and Eda’s penchant for lying to each other and pushing each other away to keep each other safe aside. (And I’ll never forgive you for follies raine, NEVER)
But can you imagine how GUILTY Raine must be feeling right now? They reluctantly broke up with the love of their life because she wouldn’t let them in, there wasn’t enough room in Eda’s mind for Raine and the curse. So Raine left, not because they wanted to but because they needed to. Both of them needed to walk away from their relationship even if they didn’t want to.
Fast forward, Raine has spent their ENTIRE career dedicated to finding a way to help wild witches, a way to help Eda.
Finally, they’re named head bard. They meet the other members of the BATs and they get started helping wild witches. And who’s the first wild witch they indirectly help? Eda. Why wouldn’t it be? They’re finally reunited for the what seems to be first time in probably 20 years and they instantly fall into old patterns. Eda calling them Rainestorm, Raine being bold and sarcastic with their “I’m just that good” (so confident for someone with stage fright, but they’re doing it on purpose showing off for her because they still love her) Eda’s first instinct when she picks up her lute is to play Raine’s Rhapsody(it could be the only song she knows but that’s not important)
They spend all this time together during Eda’s Requiem, bantering as if they hadn’t not seen each other for 20 years and somehow through all their conversations Luz and King nevercome up
Now here they are in the middle of the woods about to sacrifice themselves when Raine discovers Eda has kids
How guilty Raine must feel knowing they almost inadvertently took Eda away from them, how in all the time they spent together during Eda’s Requiem they never bothered to ask Eda about her family.
Now we jump to Follies give or take 3 weeks after Eda’s Requiem. We know now Raine wasn’tbrainwashed, how painful must it have been to have to push Eda away. To have to fight her and pretend they didn’t know anything of the last month. That’s why Raine’s eyes were darting back and forth when Eda played her tape recorder, Raine wasn’t confused. Raine was trying not to cry whichwe see they were unsuccessful at once the coven guards find them
Now at the present day Raine is so preoccupied with trying to keep Eda safe they don’t understand the consequences of their own actions. Because Raine has led Eda to believe they’re being brainwashed Eda is now going OUT OF HER WAY to PUT herself in danger in an attempt to get through to Raine
TL;DR Raine Whispers is doing what they think is best but is causing more problems than intended
Raine unintentionally causing the start of Eda’s apple blood addiction is the funniest thing to me. But also instead of being Wine equivalent of demon realm Apple blood is just Capri Sun equivalent of demon realm.
There’s a kids version and adults version. The adult one is alcohol, the kids one is caprisun
but it’s the fact that, in Follies at the Coven Day Parade when Eda and Raine fought-
RAINE REMEMBERED EVERYTHING AND STILL HAD TO PRETEND NOT TO, TO THE POINT OF FIGHTING THE WOMAN THEY LOVED, IN ORDER TO PROTECT HER
it’s the fact that EDA KNEW RAINE WAS GOING EASY ON HER and we all assumed it was lingering real feelings from prior to the mindwipe but NO. RAINE WAS GOING EASY BECAUSE THEY JUST WANTED TO PUT ON ENOUGH OF A SHOW OF FIGHTING EDA SO SHE’D BELIEVE THEY DIDN’T REMEMBER
it’s the fact
ITS THE FACT THAT RAINE CRIEDAFTER EDA LEFT BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN FORCED TO FIGHT THE. WOMAN. THEY. LOVED. FOR HER PROTECTION
I’ve been able to relate to a lot of the characters in The Owl House since I always saw myself as a loser, an idiot, & not good enough growing up, but Gus gets bonus points because of the pressure he gives himself & how he’s always wrapped around his head (which is something I still struggle with)

Matt Braly - icon, plays the “I grow tulips” icon Chuck, made it canon that Amphibia and The Owl House are in the same universe on a different occasion to Dana doing it, killed three teenage girls.
so has ANYONE pointed out that now the owl house has a gay purple haired witch who works in a library with secret dark inner sanctums she has to sneak her well meaning but clumsy friends into?? because
