OH MY GOD OH MY GOD WAIT WHAT IF FLAPJACK SUGGESTED THE NAME CALEB BECAUSE THAT WAS PHILLIP’S BROTHER’S NAME?!?!?

crystallinegazer:

okay so like
we all know that philip is definitely belos, but i just noticed something i don’t think anyone else has

did this mf take his shovel and turn it into a staff??? it even does the weird bouncy effect thing when it pops out

I think it’s more likely that this was a reference to his inventing skills as he was around YEARS before tech like that was a thing but he was able to make this shovel, so years later a staff like that would be no problem.

I didn’t know anyone was still not sure if Belos was Phillip until I came onto tumblr today. People were talking about the reveal and I went ??? What?? I watched the whole episode what reveal?? Eda’s dad? Only for people to mean Phillip/Belos. This feels like Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond all over again.

pdaliceliveblogs:

The vocal layering?? The fuck?!

Okay. Okay. How do we interpret this.

There’s a possibility that this is just supposed to represent his voice getting corrupted as he’s taken over more and more by wild magic; that him having a different VA as pure Philip was to keep us from having his identity confirmed by the VA. That’s possible.

But with the “The Emperor is looking forward to meeting you”, and his eyes sometimes being blue and sometimes being green, I’m genuinely starting to wonder if there are two people inside Belos. If he and his brother are… combined, somehow. Some magical accident? Is that why he built a new body– not to put himself into, but to separate out his brother?

INTERESTING!

That would explain how Hunter seems to be a replica of Phillip’s brother in every way but this:

Is identical to Phillip himself…

Either that or Phillip had to use bits of himself to complete the spell??

I still feel like so much more is pointing towards Hunter being some-sort of sacrifice, but this theory is going to be nagging at me for a long ass time

Okokok listen

Phillip literally said it was as if the land was trying to hide the magic from him. He has had to find and take everything by force. Now, he SPEAKS FOR the Titan (the land) while actively smothering it. He speaks against the isles’ inherent properties while using them for himself. He doesn’t want anyone else with that power. The colonizer metaphor is so fucking obvious and plain as day instead of hidden behind censors and I am once again in awe of the TOH team.

sergeantsporks:

Wild Witch: “Hey, Phillip, what’s up? Cool journal!”

Wild Witch 2: “Hey, Wittebane, wanna come over to my house today?”

Phillip: They all hated me

as much as of a detestable scumbag as Phillip was revealed to be, I can at least say this:

“Hateable sorceress/sorcerer” is a magnificent insult to throw at someone. That filthy colonist-turned-muckman may have taken over the isles, suppressed all forms of “wild magicks” (i.e. what’s likely free, natural, and untainted magic), ruined the lives of countless individuals, and flat-out ended just as many AT LEAST, but at least he gave us a darn good forum weapon.

cryptic-coven-scout:

I’d like to be able to call Philip an idiot for putting Glyphs, which consume the thing they’ve been drawn on, onto his own body, but I have to admit, that had I been him I would’ve either:

A) Have gotten Curious and drawn them on myself to see what would happen

B) Wanted to know if putting Glyphs on myself would give me magic, and would have done it despite all of the obvious risks (I know it’s stupid but It’s for science and maybe the slightest bit of curiosity)

or

C) Absentmindedly doodling on my arm, deciding to draw a glyph. Which is quite possibly the dumbest way to get yourself cursed

The real reason why Belos keeps making the grimwalkers of his brother

image
image

They’re test subjects, just like the Basilisks.

image

Belos wants to live forever, and he’s obviously not going to do that in an aging, decaying, maimed body of his, when he has a way to recreate a perfect copy of his old, young and fit body.

image

This could also explain why he keeps making the Golden Guards younger in each generation.

image

Notice that he comments only on Hunter’s appearance, not on his personality. He doesn’t care about that, all he wants is a way to create a new body for himself, that will be the same as his old one. I guess he plans to transfer his consciousness to it.

And who on the Boiling Isles makes for a better test subject than another human? Especially one with similar genetics to his own?

I wonder how many innocent women Phillip burned at a stake in the human realm because he thought they were witches.

If Luz finds out Phillip and Belos are the same person in this episode, she’s going to realize he never returned to the human world. Which means Luz might think she’ll never see her mom again.

What a finale!

Oh God this made me tear up so much!

I love it when Luz and Eda mimic each other. This was such a cool fight.

I thought his scar was fake until it reappeared on his face again. He’s falling apart I’m surprised he’s lasted this long.

God this is horrifying. I really want Dana to go full horror in her next series.

King in the graveyard of the Golden Guards was chilling.

I love them so much! He’s just a chaotic little baby with God like powers. I’m sure we’ll see him again.

Raine kept their promise to Luz! I jokingly said Eda could just take her arm off and be fine. Didn’t realize how right I was gonna be.

I’ve gotten teary eyed before at this show but never full on cry. King’s sacrifice changed that.

Wow. Luz and her friends are all in the Human Realm now. I don’t know how to feel. Happy that Camilla is with her daughter again but devastated that Luz lost Eda and King and the others on the Boiling Isles.

And now only 3 episodes left. So much to answer and unfortunately not enough time. I can’t wait for season 3 to be released because Dana and crew are hard at work! Until then, we enter another hiatus.

product05:

Also props to that one person who said that the owl house might have a twist villain, you we’re right all along! Though it’s not King’s dad, but you’re right all along!!

Belosismisunderstood, and a sad old guy who was raised to be a witch hunter general, thought that his brother betrayed him so he killed him, tried and did commit mass murder, cloned his brother who betrayed him over and over again so he killed him over and over again, tried to kill all witches to what he believed will protect humanity, but hey! He tried to help Luz to get her back home, but he also tried to kill that kid.

Something familiar to what Dana said that sometimes, a villain with tragic backstory who tried to do evil things is not worthy of redemption or forgiveness, or something like that. (I can’t remember the exact words)

When all of your previous grimwalkers decided not to hunt witches, so you resort to nominative determinism

1. As kids with his brother wanted to be witch hunters

2. His brother wasn’t as afraid of magic so he was able to learn that witches weren’t all that bad early on

3. He gained a witches are bad mindset while his brother was more interested and magic

4. Became leaders in their community in how they got statues and references in the real world

Some time up to them becoming adults

4.5   His brother and him probably sneaked into the Boling Isles like Luz

4. Both probably had the desire to learn magic but Belos taking more extreme measures to get above the other witches ate palismans, causing him to resent magic that would not give him real power as he still reaped the benefits of the curse

5. He realized his brother fell for Eda’s ancestor and tried to kill her from behind, his brother stopped him but Phillip killed his brother

6. Due to him not being able to control his curse and lacking magic he was driven off by the witch without a portal

7. To get his own, he went off, writing his journal, but along the way heard about The Collector and Grimmwalkers which is why he had his brothers bones when summoning The Collector and was not focusing on creating the portal at the moment

8. Met Luz and Lilith in the past

9. Creates the first Grimmwalker from his brothers bones

10. Changes his name and face

11. Puts his plans for the Day of Unity into Motion

100 years later

12. Fastforwarded, probably realized who Lilith was after meeting Luz, and seeing her glyphs, something that was rare to him, seeing Lilith not a part of the Emperor Coven as a good thing

Being a massive history nerd, I LOVED it when Belos referred to himself as a Witch-hunter, because it makes complete sense since he’s from the 1600s. 1600s England/Colonies were also known as the age of Oliver Cromwell and Witch Hunts, and considering Cromwell’s attitudes toward the Irish and the sheer influence he had on politics and culture of the time, I have no doubt that Phillip idolized the guy.

Also watched Wolfwalkers recently.

creator-indy:

My favorite part of kings tide is when luz is trying to convince belos/Phillip to let her free when she offers to be his guide in the modern human realm and when she points out his outdated fashion sensibilities he’s just like:

That’s the look of someone who didn’t think things through

hadesisqueer:

“Philip’s worst memory was killing his brother :(” ok then next time don’t fucking kill your brother idk

“What if the human world’s changed? It’s been hundreds of years since you last saw it.”
