Star of Eight Points

and they gazed into battle,
his thoughts like an army behind him,
hers as a solid shield before him,
and all he could think of
was his hand on her neck,
looking ahead
at the time they didn’t have

Anna Bilinska

dark and ashen was the dress
life had chosen for her to wear,
left alone with only a feathered fan,
frayed and tattered as her soul.
left in shattered pieces drifting beside her,
in between, glimpses of the dreams she once had and cherished,
and hung on to as the fan she held in her hands.
glimpses, she couldn’t know, would remain only that.
until kindled, bright and ablaze, burning as hot as her desired always did
and perish

Original painting is “Anna Bilinska” by Emmeline Deane

Dark Room

why is it that she felt
deeply connected to a room,
where she could neither see
nor hear
and feel lost in the world outside

where she felt, she had less control
about her life
than in a space
where she was restricted
not knowing but feeling
at home

a  place,  where they both could be
themselves
and not be held back by anyone’s standards
especially their own

but this wasn’t life
it was the easy way out
