“I promised to do whatever it takes to stop [antagonist]. If that means stooping halfway to your level, fine.” They paused, reigning in their irritation. No sense in collapsing this partnership before they needed to. “As long as you rise up to meet me halfway.”

“Honey, I can’t think of a single better reason to behave myself.”

“You’re a millionaire and there’s only one bed?” The hero cut their nemesis a look. “If you need to tell me something, you can go ahead.”

“Tell you that my PA thinks we should just fuck already? Sure, I can tell you that.”

When they finally uncovered their nemesis’ identity, they expected to feel elated. Smug, at least. Instead they just felt- “Shit.”

The hero glared up at them, a raw red stripe outlining their eyes. Tears glittered even as they gritted their teeth. “What,” they snapped, “prettier than you expected? Younger? Less famous? I’m a nobody, I told you. There’s no way for you to find out who I am.”

But the hero wasn’t a nobody, not to them. They were a friend, a best friend, and…a crush. Shit. Shit.

When he wakes up, he sees his mother again, and he’s ecstatic. His father is there, too. He goes to school and sees Nino and Alya. The Ladyblog is still up and running with Ladybug and Chat Noir’s escapades, and nothing seems to be amiss.

Then he wonders why Lila is sitting at Marinette’s desk. Alya and Lila share a look, and for once, even Lila looks sincere in her confusion.

“Who’s Marinette?”

Adrien is confused.

He races to the bakery; it’s still open and thriving. But when he rushes inside, Tom and Sabine recognize him, but not as Marinette’s friend; just as the son of one of their biggest catering clients—Gabriel Fashion. When he asks them about a daughter, Sabine’s face falls and she leaves and Tom has to explain to Adrien that children are a bit of a sensitive topic for Sabine—she’s barren. They can never have a biological child.
