You don’t know how happy I am to have my braids . I’ve always wanted box braids since I was little. I use to get made fun of by my Hispanic peers for having “black hair” and made fun of by my Black peers for having “good hair”. Being mixed I never felt like I fit into either group so I didn’t want to give anyone any ammunition to ostracize. Well forget all those people that made me feel like I wasn’t allowed to embrace either of my cultures. I don’t care what anyone has to say about me. Reposted from @protectivestyles The CROWN Act, which stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair, prohibits “discrimination based on an individual’s texture or style of hair.” The bill states that “routinely, people of African descent are deprived of educational and employment opportunities because they are adorned with natural or protective hairstyles” and lists examples such as locs, cornrows, twists, braids, Bantu knots, and Afros. “Natural Black hair is often deemed ‘unprofessional’ simply because it does not conform to white beauty standards,” Rep. Watson Coleman said in a statement. “Discrimination against Black hair is discrimination against Black people. I’m proud to have played a part to ensure that we end discrimination against people for how their hair grows out of their head.” The bill is now heading to the Senate and the Biden administration has said in a statement that it "looks forward to working with the Congress to enact this legislation and ensure that it is effectively implemented.” (: Deagreez/Getty) via Repost @buzzfeednews

My real hair is catching up to my magic hair.
December 2019
Took out the braids and dyed my hair brown. It was starting to look weird having too many different fading colours in my hair. Will go back to colour when I have more even length. The sides are coming through! Might take a break from braids in a few months if I have enough length
