LIVE

1.     Wag ng mag-abalang gumawa ng Dalgona Coffee. Lasang kabet! Masarap lang sa una pero nakakaumay. At the end of the day, dun pa din ang balik mo sa LEGIT 3-in-1 na nasa sachet.

Always remind them to stay home, keep safe and ‘Beke nemen.’

4.     Wag ipang-rebond ang nakuhang ayuda. Kakarebond mo lang nung December.

7.     Iwasan munang lumandi. It could save your heart from hapdi.

9.     Ilagay sa tabo ang pinagmumugan. Masasatisfy ang pwet mo kapag ginamit mo itong panghugas. Ma-mint mint pa.

#TheKojicConcept

11.   Please lang pakibalik ng talong sa ref. Pwede pa yang ipangtorta as long as walang nakakaalam kung saan mo ito ginamit. Note: Pakihugasang mabuti mga 10x.

14.   Mag-enroll sa mga free online course gaya ng “How to Be a Professional Digital Artist using PicsArt”, “30 minutes Free Online Course on How to Be a Professional Chef by Panlasang Pinoy” and “1-week Online Course Kung Paano Magpatawad at Magmove-On.”

(Day 1. Tuyosilog. Day 2. Caviar-Silog. Day 3 Lumpiang tuyo. Day 4. Lumpiang Caviar)

Feelings na pang-lockdown but will end you knockdown.

*snaps in Z formation*

Okay.

( Mapag-aruga agad? Galing sa sinapupunan? Nanay?)

Hihi”

4.     Mega open-up kayo ng mga past relationships niyo. Todo comfort ganyan, bigay advices ganyan pero yung follow-up question, “So anong suot mo ngayon?”

*with emoji na naglulungad.

6.     “Masaya na ako sa kung anong meron tayo NGAYON” ang pamatay niyang linya. Emphasized and capslocked yung “NGAYON “kasi after quarantine, goodbye quaranfling.

Akala mo kasi “Send noods.” Ibang ayuda pala ang gusto.

8.    Sobrang sweet niya kasi palagi niyang nireremind sa’yo to #StayHome pero iba behavior pag nahohorny, “Walang tao dito sa bahay. Wanna come over? Hihi.” Ready ka magpabaril para sa titi.

9.     Kapag nagi-I love you ka during video call, ang palagi niyang sagot, “Chappy Chappy!” tapos bigla madidisconnect.

11.  Alam niya kung anong episode ka na sa Money heist, pati design ng lace ng panty mo at the moment pero never niyo napag-usapan kung may jowa ba kayo pareho. Kashe…de nemen yen mehelege. Eng mehelege meseye keye perehe.

#CrashLANDIonYou.

14.  Yung kinilig ka nung sinabi niyang “I want us to be more than just friends after lockdown pero ang ibig sabihin talaga nun is “super duper bestfriends”. #EnhancedCommunityQuaranFLING

16.  Full of positivity at words of encouragement siya lagi kaya lalo mo siyang minamahal. “Ok lang maging kabet as long as di tayo nakakasira ng relasyon at wala tayong ginagawang masama.”

Ampanget! ( Uxto mo yon?)  Sa ngayon, practice #Isolationship for the sake of humanity. Enjoy your own company by having quality “me-time.” Focus on loving and improving yourself so you’ll not engage or settle for something less than you really deserve.

But #StayHome.

Ok.  I’m asking this seriously.  Public schools aren’t businesses.  They don’t turn a profit.  They aren’t running in the red.  How is opening schools back up supposed to jump start the economy?

Oh I see.  It’s so parents can return to work allowing the government to skip out on another round of stimulus money.

Hmm.  Don’t like that much.

I hate that this scene works as a reaction gif to something so predictable, so preventable, but so inevitable.  We get to see it play out in real time.

It’s a shame that people have to spell it out this way as if the thought of dead children and teachers isn’t enough to elicit sympathy

The GOP knows and they aren’t just “letting” it happen, they are trying to FORCE it to happen because trump is desperate for normality to return before Nov and the GOP doesn’t want to fund education to do distance learning well. Their kids are in private school which are NOT reopening in Aug.

Teachers should go on strike, nationwide.

This is not just so parents can go back to work.

The “Back to School” sales every year? Make BILLIONS of dollars. Billions. New clothes. New supplies. Teacher shopping lists. Lunch boxes, backpacks, shoes, tech.

If schools were online this fall, at least half that money would go out the window. Parents wouldn’t have to buy tissues and crayons for the teachers. Most people with kids stocked up on art supplies at the beginning of this when they knew they’d be stuck inside a lot. Who needs new shoes if you aren’t actually going to school? Or new clothes for that matter? Don’t need a backpack if you’re not taking stuff to and from school, no lunch box if you’re eating at home.

Don’t think for one second that schools don’t make the economy money - its just not as obvious as everything else.

By the way - not every teacher CAN strike. I know at least in Texas they will be fired and lose their teaching certification because they don’t have the kind of union that will protect them. My mom is one of those teachers who works in a shitty Texas district in which the parent attitude is: “if teachers can’t handle it they should just quit” (and that’s a direct quote). My mom couldn’t afford to quit two weeks ago but now that I’ve been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer? The bills are already pouring in. So instead, my high risk mother with asthma will have to start work in 2 weeks, then come home to take care of me, who has basically no immune system because of chemo. And we literally don’t have any other option. And mine is just one story of one teacher, and we’re not alone in being terrified and having nothing to do about it.

What a fun time to:

1) not be unionized, and 2) have your health insurance tied to your employment

I ended up reflecting on this question more than I expected and saw how far I’ve come with the work I do, so I turned this question into a full post/article! Thank you to the person who sent this a long time ago, and I’m sorry for responding so so late!

Quick background: my first work experience happened way before COVID, but I also started a new job two weeks before our country went into lockdown. I’ll be anchoring my responses from these experiences. Please note that things may be different for anyone!

On a work desk tour
You can check out snippets of my desk setup on my Instagram Stories Highlights (filed under - work: upd, work: abs-cbn, and desk mini-tour)! My high school/uni study space is my dedicated work space now that I’m working from home (since March).

I’d love to do an official mini-tour as well because the way I currently use this space is way different from my school days, and it’d be nice to reflect on that! I’ll post more pics - or maybe make a vlog soon??

On first day jitters
Small disclaimer: some of these tips might depend on your employer’s hiring and onboarding process, and you know *gestures vaguely* COVID, but these are things that helped me a lot in my first job as well as my interns before their first day!

First things first, breathe! Although it’s normal to be nervous about starting a new job and stepping into a new environment, you can mitigate some of the anxiety by preparing days (and even weeks) before.

image
  • Coordinate with your recruiter or HR. Aside from pre-employment preparations, ask them if they can give you a tour of the area and show you where the following places are: where to clock in and out, your work area, your immediate superior’s office, your teammates’ area, HR department, cafeteria, and the nearest lavatory from your office. These places are crucial to your survival on your first day. You can always familiarize yourself with the other surroundings as the days pass anyway.
  • Refresh your memory about the company/organization. Sure you might have done your research for the job interview, but that doesn’t mean you no longer need that info. Browse their website and revisit their mission statement, org chart (if available), and other important details.
  • Plan your outfit! The dress code is usually explicitly stated in the employee handbook/orientation (or you can ask HR about it). You can even get some outfit ideas from the people you come across in the building. It’ll help you adapt to the company culture and blend in.
  • Make sure you pack a notebook and pens. And water! Check with your recruiter/HR if you need to bring other documents or supplies too.
  • Optional: do a dry run of your commute to work. I usually do this early on (sometimes in the job interview and/or job offer stages) to make time adjustments.
  • If it’s your first day and you’re already working remotely, try to have a plain background when attending video calls! This puts the focus of others on you and what you say rather than what’s around you in the room.

Lastly, try to relax the way you normally do. It’s easier than done, but remember that you were chosen out of the many candidates for a reason. You got this!

On making friends
Normally, someone else will make the first move to welcome you to the team. In any case, set a goal to talk to at least one person that day. This person can be your new teammate or someone who’s next to you/near your work area (okay now that I think about it, my first friends at work are always the receptionists and security guards rather than my teammates). You can make small talk (what do they do, how long have they been in the company, etc.) and even ask if you can get lunch together. Do keep in mind though that they may not be available to talk often or for a long time because of their own tasks.

People will naturally gravitate towards you the first few days. Take advantage of it and do be kind and respectful.

On showing up even if you’re tired
The first 3-5 months will be challenging because this is a period of adjustment for you. You’re navigating social circles and figuring out norms all while getting acquainted with your work. It’s a lot! But this also a good time to reconnect and remember your personal whats and whys - what is it about this company that made me want to work here? what is my favorite part of my job so far? what do i wish to achieve with this job? This may help you build purpose and motivation as you go to work everyday. Also, if things get overwhelming, it’s alright to take a step back and breathe. You have the skills to do the job, but it doesn’t mean that you need to have it all figured out at once.

In the long run, set clear boundaries, use your leaves or PTO, and use up that one hour ✨ unpaid ✨ lunch break. This is for your mental health and peace of mind. You are giving 7 or 8 hours (or more) of every day to your job but this is not all there is to it. A lot of people are very passionate about what they do and strongly identify with their job, and that’s okay too! Just remember to cultivate your inner life - make time for your hobbies and things that are important to you, hang out with your friends (ideally not your work friends + do this responsibly please), and take care of yourself.

-

Felt like the previous paragraph was a pep talk to myself so yeah! We’re all just figuring things out one day at a time. You’ll be okay. I hope anyone who comes across this still finds this post helpful especially since COVID has drastically changed the way work works! For new or follow-up questions, don’t hesitate to reach out via DM or my ask box!

In the time of Covid-sanctioned quarantine, I’m discovering the joy of simply walking outside with my dog and my wife.

March 23. 2020

I’m spending the day in the chilly basement at my parent’s house in Connecticut. The lighting from extra table lamps collected from around the house is dim, but cozy and what was once used as a dinner table during my childhood is doubling as a desk. This is my makeshift office, “the bunker” as my dad has come to call it, my escape from coronavirus-drenched New York City. I was here last week, I’ll be down here again this week and probably the week after that, too: working, hiding, worrying, looking for answers to the question we’re all asking: how did we get here? How did we get to a place where a mysterious, previously unknown virus is killing people in mass numbers; where we can’t dig graves fast enough for fit all the bodies; where we don’t know when it will be safe to be close to family members again; where doctors are sewing their own masks because there aren’t enough to go around? It’s feeling more like 1820 than 2020 these days.

Worldwide, nearly everyone is doing the same thing as me: staying put, avoiding other people, and wondering how an invisible enemy hiding in plain sight could send financial markets into freefall, drive thousands from their homes and offices, cancel celebrations large and small, turn lives upside down, and stop the world.

Since we’ve been suck at home, my husband and I got creative and threw a budget Animal Crossing themed birthday party for our 1yr old with party games for our older boys to play. They had a blast and finished the night with some dino egg bath bombs they excavated from their dig site.

Not to go full 2018 on the main…. but this quarantine has got me rly wanting to whip out my Elane Haven and/or my Coriane Jacos cosplay that I worked on but never posted. Thoughts?
