Every once in a while we construct a device that is like a psychic answering machine.
It collects stray thoughts fueled by either fear or desperation.
We make these in areas with high concentrations of missing people, and magical activity.

These machines are crazy expensive and very intrusive, they break so many laws and ethics and I hate using them. But sometimes our own investigative methods fail and we need to find something fast, before it can hurt more people.

Please keep in mind that if we catch anything human we normally delete it and move on. But sometimes … sometimes we catch something wrong.
These are a few recordings that led to either a dead end, or a corpse.

“I’ve swallowed so much blood.”

“I can hear it all, I can hear everything.”

“What is this thing living inside my arm?”

“Red … it’s all been replaced with red.”

“Soon they’ll come back for me, and then we’ll be one.”

“Why won’t the ocean take me back?”

“Take off all the skin and become new.”

“I need wings to fly, claws to tear, and teeth to feast.”

“I can’t find my reflection.”

“He took my bones … and put these things inside of me.”
