We test to discern your Discipline. Your area of concentration. It is what you are, and with the right guidance, you may safely rise to unknowable heights.”

So, keeping Fogg’s words in mind, have you ever thought about what those ‘unknowable heights’, might mean?

Eliot’s discipline is telekinesis, right? So maybe for him, this might mean that he would be able to manipulate more and heavier and bigger objects. Or that he would be able to use his telekinesis on more than just ‘objects’. Maybe he could control things as fleeting as gasses, or fluids. Things as volatile as fire, for example, or pressure. Maybe he could control a field of effect. Contain an explosion, or keep an area stable during an earthquake. Or many more possibilities.

If I use the same kind of thinking for Quentin’s discipline, what heights could his ‘repair of small objects’ reach? Or ‘minor mending’. The most logical conclusion seems the upgrade from ‘minor’ to ‘major’ mending. The repair of ‘small’ objects, to the repair of ‘big’ objects. But there could be even more.

We could take out the ‘objects’ part. Repairing and mending ‘objects’, upgraded to repairing and mending ‘living beings’. Mend a wound. Repair a broken bone.

It seems likely that mending a person (or animal), would be harder than mending an object, right? And therefore, something that Q has to study and practice his way up to. (At least it does to me)

And I gotta say, just thinking of those possibilities, opens up SO many ways in which writers could take their fanfics. Really, sky is the limit.

@eliotandquentinsittinginatree great minds, and all that— may i respectfully suggest on of my own stories, “your body (your heart) in his hands,” in which both Quentin and Eliot have developed magical specialties that significantly advance what is possible in their disciplines? There is also a follow-up fic to that one that does something similar with Julia’s magic. (And now I’m thinking about Margo, and what she might do with her discipline, of which we’ve never seen nearly enough.)

I love it when i find elements in a Magicians story that expand the magical world– there is so much possibility there. Off the top of my head, I’ve read fix-its and future-fics by @eidetictelekinetic (panboleyn on ao3) and @orchardsinsnow that feature creative advances in magic and magical theory; they are both excellent writers and I highly recommend their work (if you want specific recs pm me and I’ll find them.) If you come across any others that explore advances or mutations in discliplinary magic, please let me know, I love it!

@allegria23 THANK YOU so much for the rec! I’m gonna go right on reading! And I will inform you of any future fics I might find that go into more details on disciplinary magic and stuff!

“This is about Nathan’s 4A video. I think it was wrong of people to share the video publicly because the video WASN’T supposed to be shared publicly at all. The video was supposed to stay private, since even Nathan probably didn’t want anyone to know about it. The person who took the video will now be in huge trouble.”

“It’s honestly depressing how many skaters have to turn their personal social media into sales platforms for fast fashion, passing itself off as sportswear or environmentally (un)friendly stuff like bottled water, just to earn a bit of money because their federations can’t or don’t help to fund them.”

“If 2020 is a flood, then the Minsk Ice Star was a flaming dumpster floating by. Held with spectators amid COVID, in an agonizing dictatorship during mass protests, with no media coverage, borders getting closed at random, two whole national teams withdraw(l), and yet another just doesn’t show up, but it goes on, warm-ups reassigned on the fly as three ladies are late, the live stream was going down repeatedly, the kiss & cry couch ruined by antiseptic, and Mishin wearing no mask, while his team loses by 19pts., etc. etc.”

“This ‘season’ is a grotesque, dangerous joke. The ISU needs to cancel everything and give huge fines to Federations that practise bad citizenship by running domestic events now that half the world is back in lockdown. There’s no sports competition important enough to warrant traveling, even to another city right now.”

“I just don’t get excited about figure skating anymore and it makes me very sad. It’s hard to care when competitions have no stakes and my faves aren’t competing. I used to watch everything on the edge of my seat, and now I’m like, ‘Oh, was there another Russian Cup this weekend? Whatever.’ Hopefully, we will have normal international competitions next season.”

“I understand why it has to be this way, but I’m still very sad that most of my non-Russian favourites (and of course all the others too) won’t get a chance to compete this season. I miss them.”

“Petition to make Mishin share the fancam he did of Sasha’s FS at the Russian Cup Stage IV pls, ngl that was so funny, he was like a proud grandpa recording Sasha’s jumps!”

“You thought the Evgenia/Rika thing was double standards… Javier traveled during the pandemic to Russia, a hot spot, somehow bypassed the border restrictions, skated in a show with an audience the next day, and took a lot of photos with other people without a mask, lol. But, he’s Jabi, he can do no wrong.”

“For some reason, the higher up the ranks, the more boring and warhorsey do the music choices get. Rika is a shining exception to the rule tho.”

“After Yuzu, P/C and Sui/Han, mens, ice dance and pairs will be so bland, and maybe will be for quite some time. There won’t be anymore nails that are sticking out, just a field of sort of the same, similar things over and over.”
