#refurbished

LIVE

2019 will be the year of getting shit done, no only am I doing more stuff solo instead of waiting on other people to be ready to do something with me I’m also fixing my house like I’ve been needing too. With that being said it pisses me off the previous owner ruined the orginal hardwood floors by putting carpet over it. I would have loved to have refurbished it but I already had all the new stuff left over from where my parents redid their house so I put down new instead.

Commissioned by a foreign couple moving to Spain to refurbish a derelict apartment in a historic 19t

Commissioned by a foreign couple moving to Spain to refurbish a derelict apartment in a historic 19th century building in #Barcelona, Polish-born, Barcelona-based designer @szymonkeller tackled the project as much from an architectural perspective as from a sculptural angle. Drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean Sea, Keller applied a sculptural design language of organic shapes, natural finishes and sandy hues in order to conjure a nostalgic end-of-summer feeling elicited by the colours of a beach sunset. Furnished with a treasure trove of unique, handcrafted pieces, many of which have been designed by Keller himself, the project epitomizes an artisanal approach to interior design.

Classic and contemporary styles clash inside Gensler’s stunning regeneration of an art-deco masonic temple.

Now occupied by CBRE, this stunning office space sensitively deals with the art deco style of this old masonic temple in Glendale, California; utilising modern materials and finishes to celebrate - not conceal - the traditional features throughout.

Most spectacular is the attic space at the top of the tower; with the original 1920′s wood trusses left gloriously exposed while Gensler’s new additions take root beneath. Meeting rooms jutting off from the main double-height space are rendered in glass so views out into the office are never obstructed.

When planning permission was given for the nine-storey building to be renovated, it didn’t take long to find a client… CBRE have now collaborated with Gensler for more than two dozen office projects. Now that’s customer satisfaction!

Casal Balaguer Cultural Centre

Casal Balaguer is a palace in the historic centre of Palma, a family house that grew throughout the centuries, beginning in the 1300s, then in the 1500s, and finally, in the 1700s, and presently loses its domestic use to become a public building, a cultural centre for the entire city. Valuing the different eras contained in the building, regarding its physical qualities without distancing ourselves from the historic periods that have shaped it, allows us to act without separating ourselves from the building: if observation is not given to distinguishing between eras, then action should not keep a distance. We act from the building’s interior, with a physical and direct thought, transforming the structure with the decision of giving it a new phase, of prolonging its life. Having sketched the building for a long time allows us to subsequently make decisions in its regard. In that sense, the sketch gives us confidence to work on what we find without physical or temporal distances with respect to history, in a continuum of time that has the effect of the new interventions coming to blend with the rest. The final result is a new generation for the building, with things inherited and new; the work of changing form that takes what exists and draws on the basis of that. It is a geometric metamorphosis, but also one of materials, of the proportions of the empty spaces and the dimensions. (…)
