Advance Birthday gift to myself

International Womens Day and the Power of Fashion to Bring Women Together.

I am dedicating this post to my best friends, my sisters and the girls who love SATC as much as I do, you know who you are

I spent many motzei shabbosim schmoozing with a very close friend of mine about plotlines for a very famous series made for women who love fashion and the city and we both watched the series over and over again. I spent almost every birthday quoting SATC to another bestie of mine who loves the show more than I do and who in fact I hope one day to do an SATC tour with one day biezrat Hashem. I saw the SATC movie with another best friend and we never forgot the scene with single manolo shoe in that gorgeous walk in closet and well never forget seeing the movie together because it was one of those bestie moments you just cant forget. The most important line that I learned from the series is maybe our best friends are our soulmates and I really believe it to be true. I had a particularly upsetting week last week but my best friends helped me through and my girlfriends got me to get back up again and go out and made me realize that in life we do fall down occasionally again and again but we get smarter and we get wiser and we just need to keep learning and keep growing if one path ends up taking us to something dangerous we reroute and push pause and regroup it’s okay to learn lessons from bad experiences and not feel they are our fault because they aren’t our fault and if we can use the experience as a tool for what not to do next time we can just get stronger and stronger in life.

Today I had a fashion-therapy day with an beautiful best friend of mine and one thing that I came across was a legendary crocodile birkin the kind I used to read about in books about rare collectible Birkins and I just got to look at it behind the glass of this cool arcade game machine and just short of drooling on the glass because I had painstakingly studied the anatomy and worth of Birkins for a good two years while writing fashion copy [Hermes was a preoccupation of mine] as I was mesmerized by what actually is an SEC recognized investment opportunity with an orange box attached. Now in the time of unsure financial markets and economic unrest I found it simultaneously exciting and amusing that a Birkin has now officially become something of a millennial stock option and I also wondered what Samantha would say, she would probably invest. That being said a little levity and a little fashion prowess never hurt before a chag that embraces dress and wardrobe and well a fashion of sorts and arm candy which yes a Birkin is And so although I am not quite sure a Birkin is what I will be investing in I did find the experience very cool, and very therapeutic and as my beautiful friend said you might as well think about going back into fashion because you seem to really love it and so at least for now writing about it with a little humor infused seems like an appropriate start after well a quite unsettling turn of events in my own life.

Another lesson learned is say yes to window shopping, and as far as retail therapy goes if you want my humble opinion the two worthy investments are jewelry and a cool jacket Coco Chanel would agree.

There is an incredible vintage jewelry store in soho called Spoken Stone that carried very affordable very gorgeous heirloom pieces that remind me of my bubby and I am wearing a vintage jacket from my fashion years and yes it has French pedigree and matches the fashion houses bags this season, because in fashion everything is worth saving or giving to a best friend who you know will give it a beautiful home and alot of fabulous new memories.
