DO NOT SUPPORT SALVATION ARMY

I can back this up. It isn’t only their shelters.

I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.

My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.

Do not give to the Salvation Army.

Do Not. Give. To. Salvation. Army

My turn.

I’m a wildfire and disaster logistics specialist.

I deal with a lot of agencies who provide disaster relief.

I used to say the Salvation Army’s disaster services were the one (literally the ONE) good thing they did.

They would come in, set up a canteen trailer, make and pass out hot coffee and donated food in a disaster, usually being one of the first agencies to get there and the last to leave.

Then I found out.

Every time they did this, regardless of if they were actually invited or deployed by the agency in charge (usually FEMA, sometimes others) they would SELF-DEPLOY. Meanjng they would just show up. Ok. That’s not TOO bad, sometimes agencies have to take initiative and get there before the red tape is sorted out. BUT. They, after they left at the end of the incident, they would send FEMA or the host agency a BILL. They used one or two paid employees (usually the driver of the truck and a supervisor); and many VOLUNTEERS, but they would bill for EVERYONE’s Labor at standard federal rates. They would bill for the food they distributed even though it was all donated by another agency or private parties. They would bill for the coffee they made and the supplies. Except they would use electricity from the shelter location, water from donations or from the shelter, and in many cases, they would get the coffee and industrial filters DONATED, but bill for them at retail prices.

Don’tFUCKING give to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army is also ass to the workers. A good number of people join it, naively thinking that it’s doing good, and end up leaving cynical and beaten down. The management is hostile, if not outright abusive, and demand some ridiculous hours of it lower to mid-level staff. Don’t support these people.

Unsettling update

Find better local charities and shelters and give to them instead!

Also just for even more horrific context on the original twitter thread?

Salvation Army reached out to Milknmuffins and asked what shelter she’s at with the promise to address the abuse in it. She…ended up saying where she was. She was thrown out onto the street. It’s also all on Twitter.

They invited her to a personal talk so she could explain the situation in person.

And then they threatened her with a screenshot of a rape-threat made supposedly by her:

And then threw her out into the street while claiming she broke house rules that

So yeah, the Salvation Army is a bunch of entitled assholes that will treat the most vulnerable like shit if they dare try to do anything that makes them look bad

The “Fuck Salvation Army” posts are making the rounds again, so conisder this your reminder:

Do. Not. Give. These. Assholes. A. Single. Fucking. Penny.

Do not support them in any way, shape, or form.

‘Tis the season to say FUCK the Salvation Army.

PETA: They’d rather spend their money on publicity campaigns than on the animals in their care. PETA killed 73.8% of the animals in their care in 2015 (x)

FCKH8: Is a for-profit company that exploits oppressed groups for money. They’re also wildly uninformed, and spread misogyny, cissexism and bi/panphobia, as well as stealing their posts/designs (x)

Autism Speaks: They spend most of their money on researching a way to eliminate autism, heighten the stigma against autism and don’t have a single autistic person on their board (x)

Please support other, better charities, and feel free to add any others you can think of to this.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure: CEO makes insane amounts of money, they deny a lot of requests for wigs/help with treatment/etc., and have attempted to sue other charities that use the color pink as part of their anti-breast cancer campaign. ( xxx )

The Salvation Army: They promote the hatred of LGBT+ people, work with fundamentalist Christian groups to support conservative politics and rip off and exploit workers. ( xxx )

Wounded Warrior: They take money that should be spent on veterans and blow it on huge opulent parties for the company bigwigs. 26 million in 2014 alone wasted! ( xxx)

^ Important reminder to NOT waste any money donating to these groups

Reblogging because of the added info about Wounded Warrior.

Signal boost.

It’s that time of the year again. A LOT of money is donated at Christmas time so here’s your yearly reminder of popular charities you should NOT donate to:

-The Salvation Army[x]

-PETA [x]

-Susan G. Kormen for the Cure [x]

-Autism Speaks [x]

There’s lots more horrible and corrupt charities out there so please do your research and please feel free to add to this list

02/28/22: Lots of stuffs today! Found a lot of clearance at Walmart and can’t forget Salvation Army Store. I first went there and for $43 with tax it was some kiddy ps2, wii and DS games. Also some PSP games and dvds.

After that it was a trip to Walmart. I found quite a bit of clearance and it was quite cheap too. I found ps4, ps5, xbone and Switch games at less than $10 each! I’m kicking myself cause I should have went yesterday. I got an alert from my Walmart app that there was new markdowns. I could have bought even more games. But someone beat me to them yesterday. Oh well. So yeah, some games have a higher priced sticker but that’s not exactly what I paid.

So, after paying for these, I decided to drive to the two other Walmart stores in Imperial County (where I live in Southern California). And I didn’t have much luck. Both of these other stores did have clearance games. But not as low as the first one I went to. They had many of the same titles that I just bought, and others. But they were above $20 each. Which really isn’t that bad. But you can’t go back once you paid $5 for a $20 game. I’ll just have to wait and hope they drop down soon. I can wait.

So now that you saw these games. Maybe go to your Walmart and check to see if they got a nice enough clearance price for you. Good luck and I hope you find lots.

A lucky day of finds! Went to the Salvation Army Store today. I found more goodies. Two wii games, four dvds and a wiimote with no battery cover. And a working HP pc! Well, I found out it was working once I got home. I took the risk and I lucked out. And to make it even sweeter, looks like whoever donated the PC was kind enough to factory reset it. So no password lockout! Which I was wary of. Total for my haul was $35 for the PC and $10 for the media.

03/21/22: What nice finds to start the week! After an emotional weekend, I start this Monday spending my cash at the Salvation Army Store. The border crossing into the US was extra long today, but I still made it on time to the thrift store. Upon opening, I found three white trash bags filled with movies. I grabbed them all and started sorting them. I tossed aside scratched and incomplete items. I think someone in town must have made his entire movie collection digital. I went crazy making a huge pile of movies to buy. Along the way, I found a Walking Dead board game and some artwork. Once I made it to the register with my three bags, to pay; I found a box there with some ps3 games. The manager put a sign on them at $5.00 each. I told the cashier to sell me the games at $3.00 since I’m buying a ton of movies. They said yes. So I got a nice selection of games too. It’s 133 movies and 19 games. So I paid about $175 plus tax for it all!

because i am officially a thrifting “snob”. because i’ve found better quality, forbecause i am officially a thrifting “snob”. because i’ve found better quality, forbecause i am officially a thrifting “snob”. because i’ve found better quality, for

because i am officially a thrifting “snob”.

because i’ve found better quality, for half cheaper, than the salvation army.

because despite the complaints i still bought this $9 jacket.

(because, yeah, that’s right…thrifting causes one to gripe over $9 when they’ve paid $4 for even…better)

because…pffft.

Christmas Spirit: Lost & Found for War Cry Magazine

Here’s a Christmassy piece that I did back in August, though just published now. A touching essay (I got a little choked up reading it!) about a couple of new parents and their daughter who was born with spina bifida just before Christmas.

Thanks to AD Roger Selvage for the assignment, and such a lovely presentation in the spread.

Oh they’re going to need salvation.

Not just making it illegal, but making being gay punishable with death.

This is one of the many reasons why I walk by every single red bucket in the run-up to Christmas. They’re not getting my money, I don’t care how nice the people ringing bells are.

Ever since the time they threatened to close all their soup kitchens in NYC if a law that did something as simple as allow companies to extend spousal benefits to their employee’s same-sex domestic partners I have refused to buy from them or donate to them.

It’s that time of year again! In case people don’t know… the Salvation Army is shitty peoples.

Also, the married women are not paid (and therefore can’t qualify for assistance if they should ever divorce, etc). And worth “of course” less than a man.

“ In the Army’s case, the agreement for compensation is that the officer allowance be paid jointly to the husband—the check is written in his name. Officially, the wife is a “worker without expectation of remuneration,” and her husband receives 40 percent more of an allowance as a married man than he would as a single man. “

hey since that season is coming up again!

To my American followers. Don’t support Salvation Army. Not only are they homophobic as shit, but I’ve also heard that they abuse a lot f homeless people.

They only care about money, please don’t donate to them and give your money to charities that actually help people

Never don’t reblog.

To be clear: this is specific to America. It is not necessarily going to be true for all countries. Please don’t boycott your own salvos without proper investigation: in many countries they do good work.

Sorry but no, the Salvation Army was founded in the UK and even there still are homophobic as hell, to the point that they still refuse to let out gay people hold positions of power in the organisation. This is a callout for the whole group, not just the US. - Purple
