I felt like making another sentai-based fighter, someone to be Miel’s inspiration. The Zangief to her Rainbow Mika, if you will. Based this guy’s design on White Ranger and the Green Hunter Beetleborg.
Silver Scarab, a fanatical actor/stuntman who adapted a character from a canceled sentai franchise as a persona to keep the legacy alive for the fans. Flashy, over the top, and a good sport.
This large Super Samurai Gridman generic is from China, with cool dragon motif and clear limbs!

So for the last while I’ve been improving on renders of my Untitled Cyberpunk Magical Girl Project OCs because last year’s already feel kinda outdated. Presently, only like 2 characters are done right of a main cast I wanna get finished soon.
Been thinking about the artstyle a lot. I can be a bit of a pedant regarding character design diversity and ensuring that each character is as functional as they are appealing, but I also wonder if that perhaps conflicts with the tone of the work they exist in.
While I was busy drawing them, I added cartoony eye highlights on a whim and shared them with friends on Discord, who, when lightly pressed on which eye design they preferred, ALL preferred the highlights, one explaining bc it helps them be more expressive.
For a bit I was thinking of keeping the style to be the same as righty, but then I realized a question to myself that I hadn’t really thought of until now: is this maybe too out of place?
I’ve mentioned this a bit before, but Untitled Cyberpunk Magical Girl Project is a story I do intend to be at least a little mature. Sort of a YA-type of “kids show for adults/adult show for kids at heart” sorta vibe that’s meant to balance out appealing style and color against mature, existential and lightly political themes. Kind of going in with an “indie” sorta vibe where it’s meant to be a little stylized and expressive, but reserved and not supremely all-out. The eye designs remind me too much of like 1930s Warner Bros cartoons, and I felt that perhaps it was too over-the-top and tonally dissonant.
But like, a lot of folks were making the case that it was still “better”, and now I’m thinking how this sort of dynamic applies to the entire artwork.
Any time my art gets scrutinized critically, it’s always these drastic concerns I’m usually already thinking about, in that the silhouettes need to be completely unique, I should experiment more with body shapes, that having same faces is laziness, etc. But now I’m really questioning if that technicality would objectively improve Untitled, or really any of my artwork.
I concern myself with visual diversity/technicality A LOT, possibly too much for my own good bc my desire to be “better” is making me unable to even really “begin” my projects bc I need to learn more to make it merely “good enough” based on my constantly-evolving standards. Right now I’m like… does my story/artstyle really need to be more than what I have now?
This is kind of an aimless ramble, I don’t really have any definitive thoughts here beyond this. Whenever folks are like “you do it or it doesn’t get done,” that conflicts wildly with my desire to have it just be a baseline level of “good" or merely “likable”. I just want to finally accomplish making my projects into a thing rather than dwell on pre-development eternally, but then people keep telling me I need it to be better, and then people are like “JUST DO IT”, then BE BETTER again, and it’s just aaaaaagh
anyways I have 3 more girls of the main cast and a few supporting characters I wanna explore later, not sure when they’ll come out

I read somewhere someone talking abot how sentai Genji wasn’t a cyborg but A SUIT?!?!?! I couldn’t help but think about a Sentai AU where Genji is a high schooler sentai boy (suit designed by Mercy idk) who lives with his big brother who runs a ramen shop were they try to make their lives away from yakuza stuff from their past. I THINK I NEED MORE IDEAS?!I ANYONE???
