There’s a big issue in this fandom and I want to talk about it. The problem at best is that people don’t fully understand trauma. At worst, it’s people loving Kaz and Inej’s suffering and never wanting them to get better. And these issues especially come up when the topic of sex is brought up.
Now, let me start off with a couple things. Number one, I agree that it probably wouldn’t happen right after Crooked Kingdom. I think they would need a lot more healing to actually get to the point where sex is an option. Number two, I personally would like to see them aged up before we get into the nitty gritty. My issue isn’t people who think it wouldn’t happen so soon. My issue is people who think that it should neverhappen.
To say that being sexually intimate with one another isn’t something that Kaz and Inej want is simply dishonest. And the people making those claims should go back and re-read/listen to the books. It is very clear in the text that Inej and Kaz are sexually attracted to one another. Inej says to Kaz that she doesn’t just want him fully clothed. During the bathroom scene, Kaz admits to himself that he has had sexual dreams about Inej. They want to be able to get to that point with each other.
Inej’s past is filled with sex being a negative and something that caused her deep psychological scars. Doesn’t she deserve to take her body back? Doesn’t she deserve to want sex? Doesn’t she deserve to consent to having sex? Doesn’t she deserve to enjoy it? And what about Kaz? He very clearly sees his touch aversion as a negative. Doesn’t he deserve to heal and move forward? Wouldn’t it be nice to think of him without those gloves and being able to freely touch the girl he loves?
Trauma isn’t fun. Trauma isn’t romantic. Trauma is pain, anger, sadness, reliving something over and over again. Wanting to heal from trauma is not a bad thing. Trauma will most likely always stick with you, but it is something you can work through in some way or another.
TLDR; Inej and Kaz deserve to heal from their pasts and explore their relationship further.
Who is excited for the Grishaverse Netflix adaptation? I totally am. Six of Crows by the amazing @lbardugo is one of my totally favorite books of all time. I fell in love with every single character, and with every single couple in this series. I love everything about this book and I can’t help it haha. To begin with we have Kaz Brekker, the bastard of the barrel, dirtyhands, Demjin, … He is such an impressive character and I can’t wait to see him on screen. Hope you like this illustration as much as me!
